Simple vegetarian weight loss recipes

I'm a vegetarian who is trying to lose weight. Unfortunately, I never bothered to gain cooking skills so I don't really know what normal dieters do to feed themselves during the week. Recipe suggestions, por favor? [more inside]

Help me understand my body and weight loss.

I weigh myself every weekday at work on the same scale (an electronic medical-grade scale they use for patients at the hospital where I work) and at the same time of day. I have noticed that when I go off my diet for a few days and my weight creeps up, that that excess weight falls off again when I return to my diet much more quickly than the weight I've been carrying for awhile. Why? [more inside]

Advice on loose skin after weight loss?

Over the last sixteen months I've managed to work off about 100lbs of extra weight. I've accomplished this via old fashioned calorie counting and exercise and I know that I've changed my habits for the rest of my life. However, carrying over three hundred pounds for almost twenty years has done a number on my skin. [more inside]

Getting in shape without getting bored

Over the past year or so, due to several factors (busytimes with work, moving places twice, a surgery), I let my diet and my fitness slip up. I would like to get back in shape and lose some weight as well. Typical problem: how to come up with a solid exercise/diet plan so that it becomes routine? [more inside]

Maintaining significant weight loss: how do you do it?

A year and a half ago, I lost a large amount of weight, i.e. 75 lbs, or about 30% of my body weight on a very low calorie diet, under medical supervision. Although I was not able to follow the official maintenance program after moving to a new city, it was relatively easy to keep things stable for the first year. But, about four months ago, I notice that some of the weight--about eight lbs worth--had crept back on. Although I've lost five of them, the last three seem determined to stick around. This, combined with the dismal statistics on long-term maintenance (97% of people regain within five years), has me pretty scared. Have you beaten the odds, and if so, how do you do it? Also, what is the balance of food vs. activity in your regime? [more inside]

My demands are reasonable, my diet is ridiculous.

Over the last ten years, I've put on 10-15 pounds of pure, unadulterated fat. Giving up desert for the next ten years doesn't seem feasible, but my general food intake is fine. I was looking for a healthy but reasonably quick way to loose 10 pounds, and 4 Hour Body was recommended. After six weeks, I am at my exact starting weight. What am I missing, and where should I go from here? [more inside]

"Muscle weighs twice as much as fat"

I'm working out, particularly around the torso, and I'm much stronger. My waistline hasn't budged. My weight has barely changed since I started going to the Y and doing 20 minutes of cardio a day plus lifting weights. Loving wife says that's because I'm building muscle, and "muscle weighs twice as much as fat." What's truly going on?

I am not forgetting to log anything I eat or drink, including condiments. I am not doing regular exercise yet (this will start on Friday). Does anyone have an explanation for this? [more inside]

Finding the one (BMI calculator that is)

A while ago, I saw this great BMI calculator that had accompanying picture of simulating body which, through a slider (?) could change from "fat" to "muscular". I found that I could reproduce fairly accurately the shape of my body (including the dreaded fat bulges...) with it and found it much more useful to see what I should target for. Unfortunately I can't find it again amongst the morass ... Surely AskMeFi sleuths can find it!

Should I keep taking Adderall?

I was recently diagnosed with adult ADHD (inattentive type) and put on Adderall. Does anyone have any insight or anecdotes to help me either (1) feel better about being on Adderall, or (2) come up with an alternative plan to manage my issues? [more inside]
