I want my side effect back

I'm naturally very skinny and throughout my teens and early twenties I struggled to put on weight. I'm 5' 10" and I weighed around 9 stone (126 pounds). If I put a lot of effort into eating more I could put on a little bit of weight, but then after a few weeks I'd lose it all again. I started taking quetiapine for depression 6 years ago and, after taking it for a couple of years, I gained around 20 pounds without trying. [more inside]

Gastric bypass for the not-so-obese?

I'm slightly overweight (5'3", 150 lbs.) so I don't qualify for gastric bypass in the U.S. However, I have heard of people going abroad to get the operation when they aren't fat enough, or haven't been fat enough for long enough, to qualify for it in the States. How does one do that? If you've had experience with that, how did it go? How much does it typically cost? Thank you in advance.

psychologically and physically dealing with sudden weight gain?

Within six months of starting a prescription known for its tendency to induce weight gain, I gained over 50 pounds. I went from a size 0/2 to a size 12/14, just under 110 pounds to just over 160. I don't recognize myself in the mirror and feel like my body isn't even mine anymore, but I know losing this weight is going to be incredibly difficult. Can you help me find a way forward from here? SHOULD one lose lbs beyond what the body sees as it's 'normal' weight?

I know that everyone is different, but I think everyone has that wieght where if you were to eat a cupcake you suddenly gain 5 lbs. That weight where your body just says- nope.. I don't like being this skinny- and then it does everything it can to go back to what it considers 'normal'. For me- at only 5'2 I have large 40" hips- (trim and flat stomach) and that's my body's normal... [more inside]

Peak vs. Diminishing returns for splitting up aerobic exercise?

Spreading 60 minutes of daily aerobic exercise (for weight loss) into multiple sessions throughout the day (60 minutes x 1 session vs. 30x2, 20x3, 15x4, 10x6, 5x12, 2x30 [theoretically]) -- what is the most efficient "split" and at what point do the benefits diminish considerably? [more inside]

As a dog walker, I easily log 14,000 steps Monday through Friday. I make sure I hit that minimum, so I can slack on the weekends and not mess up my weekly average of 10,000 that the health pundits say we need to walk for weight maintenance. [more inside]

I want to lose 10-15 pounds, can you recommend an iPhone app to help me?

Hi, I'd like to lose 10-15 pounds. When I weigh what I do now (200 lbs.), I have issues with indigestion and acid reflux. When I weigh about 10-15 pounds less, I don't. So, I'd like to lose some weight. I found that using apps (FitBit and Runkeeper) really helped me run and walk more, and I'm hoping there is an app that will help me learn to be more mindful about my eating and lose a little weight. What do you suggest?

Abs of steel-cut oatmeal

I lost the weight I needed to lose. I was not obese, and though I was definitely overweight according to my own small frame (and my doctor) I was just at the top end of the standard BMI "normal" category. Un-supersize me. Difficulty: mental health

With anxiety, chronic depression and ADHD (I'm being treated for all), I struggle sometimes to get out of bed and go to work, let alone exercising and making healthy food (I know, I know, 30 minutes daily exercise is the single biggest thing for health). Where do I start? It seems huge and impossible. I have some spare cash to throw at this, but I’m reluctant to buy expensive clothes racks that take up space in my tiny flat and accuse me silently. If you have any ideas/tips/links for an old (50ish) seriously unmotivated introvert with a BMI of 40 and the attention span of a lizard, that’d be good. If you see a (solvable) obstacle that I'm obviously missing, I'd appreciate your insight. [more inside]
