Is there data about moderate weight loss for the relatively thin? For example, we all know that yo-yo dieting is bad, etc., etc. But is there any data about whether it's bad for a not-overweight person to gain five pounds every winter and then lose it every spring? It seems like all the healthy eating and weight loss stuff I read is based on studies of fat people.

i have an enormous chest and it's very heavy.
it's wood. i made it myself. it's about 1.5 metres squared and one metre high. i use it to store "stuff" in and i want to put casters on it, but not significantly increase its height.
the problem is that all the casters or wheels that would take the kind of weight of the chest are gi frickin' normous.
and
all the casters/wheels i've seen with a lower profile have quite low weight restrictions.
can i just put heaps more small casters on the box or do i have to put the huge casters on that fit the overall weight of my chest?
i believe the chest weighs in the vicinity of about 100kilograms.... and when you fill it with all the stuff i keep in it.... maybe 150-200 kilograms.
help me before i set fire to it in frustration.... my physics, like gravity, sucks.

Is my thyroid underperforming, or am I just being a hypochondriac? My TSH level is 3.47 and my primary care physician thinks I'm fine. But I don't feel quite right. The endocrinologist is expensive and takes forever to get an appointment with. I just want to know if I'm wasting my time.

At 25 (6Ft, 68KG), I suddenly developed a fat stomach that now goes a bit over my belt. This happened suddenly over 3 months, so fast that it feels all wierd, like it is not my body. I know that many guys have big stomachs, so I'm not sure if my case is normal or not.
That's my question - did you develop fat around the stomach suddenly, or did it come gradually?

A lot of the studies I've googled indicate that there is a non-intuitive relationship between skim milk and obesity, at least in children. Does this extend to adults? Could someone explain how whole milk makes you lose weight?

Is there a limit to the amount of calories the body can store as fat at any one time?
My question is, let's say you go over your caloric needs by 4,000 on one day. Does that mean that your body will add 4,000 calories worth of fat? Or is there any limit to the amount of fat the body can store in one sitting?

So I am about to join a gym. In most ways, I am a rational human being - but this membership comes with fitness evaluation and body composition test and if I have someone tell me that I am a big, fat, pudding of a man I am going to be posting an "ask metafilter" thread about how to hide a body. How do I handle this is a constructive manner?
