Is an intervention needed on these tacky stagette plans?

My friend (let's call her Amanda) is having a stagette, which is being planned by a completely different group of friends from the ones that we share. She's known these ladies since childhood, and I hardly know them at all. I feel like Amanda's friends are planning a stagette that goes strongly against Amanda's taste and wishes. Should I say something to the party planners? If so, how? (more inside) [more inside]

Mother May I Sleep With Danger

Wedding week, visiting parents, close quarters: my parents helped me buy the apartment my fiance and I live in. They'd like to stay on our couch for three nights before the wedding. I love them, like spending time with them, and would want them to stay with us... any other week except this one! Am I being a jerk? [more inside]

NYC is full of starving artists, surely someone will want to play our wedding?

We need to hire an affordable NYC musician to play at our wedding. Ideally it would be a banjo player but I will settle for something traditional like a violinist. We're on a shoestring budget. DJ recommendations are fine, too. [more inside]

Barn Wedding.

It looks very much like we're going to have our wedding in a barn. We're purloining every aspect of it from someplace, which includes willing mefites. Hit me with ideas, page suggestions, etc, to make it both interesting and beautiful. Note: Barn is very large, and very old. It is a small budget, but we're crafty, so hit me with all sorts of ideas, costly or otherwise. All the thanks in the world to you for helping.

Wedding Venue Catering Restrictions?

Perfect wedding venue (inexpensive yacht club in perfect spot in RI) wants a licensed caterer to prepare the food- but my good friends want to cook and are not licensed. -Is there a way to get around this? - Is there a way to find a caterer to do part of the meal and have my friend's supplement the menu with their own dishes? (ones that dont need the kitchen) - Any other advice on getting around this dilemma? -Do most venues have this requirement? Thanks so much!

Ideas for my best man/brother's wedding speech? PS He's severely hearing impaired.

Ideas for my best man/brother's wedding speech? PS He's severely hearing impaired. I can't believe I didn't think to ask this here earlier. My brother/best man is having a tremendously hard time thinking of ways he can deliver his speech at my wedding (in 12 days!). I always say he doesn't have a very thick deaf accent. But I've been hearing it for 20 some years, so I'm a bit biased. In all honesty, people at the wedding would probably have a hard time understanding him. He's really nervous...for good reason. Any ideas?

Is it possible to have more-than-decent wedding music in the wilds of Northern New Hampshire?

Marriage in WAY northern New Hampshire (20 miles south of Canadian border - we're talking five hours from Boston.) Family is there, but we live on west coast. Great! Problem: music. We need a GOOD band and DJ. Save us from typical oldies/blues-rock/jazzy/swingy mish-mash. Doesn't have to be a typical wedding band, though it should be a group that can entertain a varied (grandparents, parents, friends, etc.) crowd. Maybe MeFiers from VT, Maine, or NH have suggestions? We don't want to spend a lot of $$$, but all suggestions, as well as creative (non-band) solutions, and off-list contacts, are welcome...
