Games/events for a wedding.

SO I want to have a few games at my wedding. Not organized sack race kind of game but non scheduled like a table with count the jelly beans or take this trivia quiz. I like getting prizes so I want reasons to give out prizes! Kids and grown-ups games/puzzles all welcomes.
I thought I might do a trivia question game that had all family sides questions on it. It MIGHT get people talking , etc.

Thanks!

How long is too long for a wedding?

So-we decided JUST NOW to get married July 11. That's soon! It is a a little farm B & B and I want it to be fun and relaxing. There will be about 50 of us including 10 or so kids. How long is TOO long for a wedding? How long is too long for a wedding? I am thinking of evening wedding.

4 to 6:30 bocce for adults, scavenger hunt for kids and just hanging out ( me included-- not hiding or anything until ceremony) (there's a big farmers porch overlooking a big flat lawn under the big old trees so those that dont want to play, etc can relax on the porch or walk and see the animals or walk thru the herb/flower gardens....

7 ceremony

7:30 buffet dinner and a little bit dancing (DJ) (inside)

9-9:30 till when ever- outside roasting marshmallows, sparklers with a guitarist/singer.

Is this way too much??

Bonus question... photographer.. is it possible to hire a good amatuer photographer and just ask for the digital copies from the card for a few hundred dollars??

Wedding, schmeddng!

Why have a wedding? Help, the fiance and I are at an impass about our wedding. I want a very small $3K or less affair: civil ceremony, family dinner and maybe a casual party at a lounge with our larger circle of friends. He wants a big catered affair costing $25K (he's come down to $10K which I still think is outragous).

I feel terrible because I cannot see how that expense is worth it but I know it makes him really sad because he thinks that I don't think it (it being the celebration of our love) is important. I do, it's just that I think it can be special w/o all the cost. He wants it to be something celebrated w/ our friends, I think it's a personal thing between the two of us.

A couple things of note, we are paying for this ourselves. We don't have any savings and I am in terrible financial shape w/ bad credit. We both earn decent salaries but he earns about twice as much as I do, which is over $100K annually. He thinks we should both pay for this equally because he wants and "equal parnter". Also, both of our parents are divorced and my mother has been married eight (8) times.

Can someone make an arguement to say it's worth the expense and hassle when I think we should save that money to get out of debt or for our future (kids or a house). I want to be enthusiastic about this for his sake but I'm having a really hard time figuring out a way to justify this to myself.

Beyond the wedding factory

Help me escape the grasping tentacles of the billion dollar wedding industry: where does one view and inspect and maybe try on nontraditional wedding dresses? Looks like I'm getting married (yay!) but I don't want a poofy bedazzled lacy monstrosity of a dress. I'll probably have a dress made but I'd like to get some ideas for dresses and the websites I've looked at for ideas don't have nearly the specificity in searching that I'd like. They usually allow you to specify color, silhouette, and/or neckline but then I still end up with hundreds of ugly dresses to wade through. What I'd really love is a website that allows for excluding characteristics (for example, I don't want a strapless dress and I don't want a white dress through ivory is okay). And I don't want to have to tell the website anything about me since I don't want to get on any spam lists or mailing lists or receive any advances from the wedding industry. But I don't mind registering on a website as a totally fictitious person. I'd also like to go someplace to try on dresses but again, do not want to have to be hard sold on any aspect of wedding planning. I get the impression that once you're known as a prospective bride, the marketing campaign begins and I'd like to avoid all of that.

So, good websites to look at and search for interesting dress ideas and places to go in the San Francisco area that won't overwhelm me with wedding propaganda, please?

NYC-area Wedding Photographers

Help me find a great wedding photographer for my wedding on Long Island next June! We're getting married in June of 2007 in Bayville, NY, a small town on the North Shore of Long Island about an hour from New York. We've looked at a few wedding photographers in the area, but they are all crazily expensive ($6,000+). More problematically, they only give us maybe a hundred prints in the end--out of thousands of photos--and are generally into a super-cheesy, glamour-shot aesthetic. Lots of pictures of the bride staring off into the distance, showing off her garters, making out with the groom on the beach, etc. etc. A lot of them have arcane pre-digital rules (no access to the digital files, for example, until one year after the wedding). None of them are appealing so far.

Ideally, we'd like to pay less for someone to shoot a lot of great, candid photos, and then give them to us in digital form (on a DVD, say). We're computer savvy and could take charge of making our own photo albums and prints. The main thing is that we'd like a good, fun, flexible photographer who can shoot digitally and give us access to the photographs. Any suggestions, endorsements, personal experiences? Thanks!

Disposable cameras at our wedding?

at our wedding, should we get disposable cameras for the tables, go for an alternative type of camera (lomo, polaroid), or forgo the whole thing? my fiancee and i have been reconsidering what seems to be the "standard" at weddings these days-- the disposable camera.

if we're going to allow our guests to take some candids (and if we're going to spend the money to provide them with the means), we want to make sure that the photos come out!

have you put cameras on your guests' tables? were the photos you got developed worth it?

... and some other thoughts that popped into our heads as alternatives:

maybe lomolito one time use lomo cameras? or
a standard polaroid camera for a set of tables? (these offer instant photos, but are much more expensive).
