I need to help 10 small nonprofit organizations set up websites. The main criteria is that these groups have to be able to maintain the sites themselves, without needing to learn HTML. Custom-CMS'es are too expensive. Does anyone have experience with good hosts that offer basic CMS-type interfaces? What's the best client-side site builder? I still use notepad for my web work(!), so am kind of in the dark as to what's available.

Are there any websites where musicians review venues at which they've performed, in terms of staff, crowd, sound system, payment policies, etc.? It seems like there must be, but I've not found anything via Google. In particular I'm interested in reviews of NYC venues.

How does one find, and choose, a designer or company to build a website? What companies (in Seattle) can you recommend? I have a friend who has a medium sized business in Seattle. He has a budget of $20,000 to $50,000 to build an Internet presence. He has no clue what to do or where to start.

I am currently building a 'community' website which is like the Yellow Pages with user reviews. For example, the website lists all the Florists, Plumbers, and Massage Therapists in the area, and then allows people to post a review for the particular service. The website is for a community of about 75,000 and it won't be difficult to get the word out about the website. The challenge is getting people to 'generate' the content. How can we incentivize people to write reviews? Any examples of websites that are doing this right? Most importantly, any creative ideas from the savvy marketers out there on how to get people to write reviews and generate our critical content with minimal financial incentive?

What are the best websites to view on a mobile phone? I have a Samsung A900 and it has a pretty large viewing area, what websites would be best that are specifically formatted for cell phones? I am interested in any website that you can think of but specifically good news sites. Also any website that is leading the pack in UI for cell phones would be great. Also if you know any sites that aren't formatted for cell phones but still function well i'm interested.

In browsing several concert venue websites, I noticed that many of them don't list their upcoming concerts and instead link off to www.livenation.com or www.pollstar.com. Does anyone know why this is? Is it a legal issue regarding the promoters of these events?

I've just installed Plone (www.plone.org) for a client on their server. They currently run their sites on Windows 2000 with IIS on port 80. I set up Plone to run on port 81, but what do I need to do to make this accessible to outside traffic? It is currently inaccessible to anyone outside the offices, and I'm afraid I have no expertise with IIS.

Oh dear. So I had this website that I spent a good couple of hours going over, but being at work, completely neglected to bookmark or save.
Defining characteristics?
It had a number of clever author/poet biographies, most of which I can remember were in the Byron Shelley Keats vein/era, and each of the authors' names had a made-up nickname inserted in the middle. As in... "William Butler 'Ghostie' Yeats" or somesuch. Also, there was a very nice glossary of musical piece definitions, most of which were words I was previously unfamiliar with.

Why does IE hate my website? I've got it looking decent in Safari and Firefox, but it looks hideous in Explorer. Having done a fair amount of Googling, I've come to the conclusion that it's probably related to one of Explorer's notorious CSS rendering bugs, but my self-taught CSS and HTML is not enough to enable me to pinpoint and solve the problem.

I maintain a complex website that I update by hand. (Unfortunately, this is unavoidable.) I want my local directory to be an exact mirror of the site, so that when I alter and modify thirty HTML files and I can simply run a script to copy them instead of FTPing them all by hand, in addition to removing deleted files and downloading any server-side changes made by scripts or other users. What's the best means to do this on OS X?
