I love tumblr, but there are a few specific tumblrblogs I need to stop reading to keep my own sanity. I compulsively read a certain set of blogs dozens of times per day. I have unfollowed them, but keep compulsively going directly to their blogs to read them. (This question is one part about software and one part human relations) [more inside]
Metafilter, can you help me remember the name of this website/startup that is in the back of my mind that I saw about 6 months ago and now cannot find? The site was a wiki style site that took a TV series or book and/or movie and extracted all the other books and music and films that were referenced in it. The site gave you summaries of these references and itunes and youtube links so that you could immerse yourself in the "universe" of a particular show/book. So kind of a similar idea to the madmen unbuttoned blog but more like a wiki. I have it in mind that this was a startup of some kind that was just starting out and thought that it was called little monsters or little devils or green monsters or something along those lines. (but trying everything I could think of along those lines turned up nothing so that may be a red herring!) I've been continually amazed by the power of the metafilter hive mind to solve this kind of query in the past, so thought I would give it a shot. Thanks.

While it's true that we can consider the internet as a 'global village', my feeling is that the USA holds the most imposing bias. We can't deny the fact that a huge proportion of the best websites and online services are from the USA or are otherwise USA-centric. As someone who lives in a far flung part of the world and who enjoys devouring all manner of information from the Web, I do find it frustrating at times that there are not more international sites with influence. Probably the only exception I can think of may be with News websites such as BBC and Al Jazera. I would be interested to know what your favourite non-American websites may be, whether they be oriented to your locality but still have useful international relevance, or if they truly are an international player?

Need ideas for websites I could build. I am going to be in between jobs in the next few months. That gap could be a week or it could be a year depending on how long it takes to find my next gig. During that gap I would like to stay productive. I am a project manager, but I can write decent python/js/css/html. I need ideas for websites I could build that 1) I would have fun doing, 2) Would be something I could talk about in interviews, and 3) Could maybe produce a community, traffic, or a few dollars. A third-party website has created a "profile" for me on their own site, using my main Facebeook picture, which turns up on the first page of Google hits for my full name. It seems to be some kind of cheesy dating site and I really don't want it up there. I've never used the site, or interacted with it in any way (I don't use any FB apps at all, and am savvy enough not to click on spammy links). Do I have any recourse for getting this taken down?
