Can you recommend some great educational media for my nearly two year old daughter? I am looking for good DVD's, computer / iPhone software, or websites that I can load up for 30-60 minutes a day. I would like something she can learn from, but if she is having fun, that is cool as well. Right now she is a Dora and Diego addict. I just got her a few LeapFrog preschool DVD's that she loves. She can sing her ABC's and can count to 10 in English and Spanish. She is just starting to be able to answer "How does the letter A, B, C, etc. go?' She knows how to flip pages and push buttons on the iPhone. Are there any computer learning games that a two year old could handle. Flash games? iPhone games? Answers to this question do not involve telling me to take my daughter outside. I am familiar with the debunking of Baby Einstein. I would just like to find some good stuff for her to watch, play or interact with. General toy recommendations are good as well.

I recently moved from Brunswick, Maine to San Francisco. I know there are all sorts of amazing things going on here, but I'm looking for unique, helpful, or interesting websites and services that are either specific to San Francisco, or primarily helpful in large cities that weren't available to me in Brunswick. Anything you'd call "Web 2.0" probably applies, and if it's in beta that's probably a good sign. I've got a (short) sample list after the fold.

I'm putting together a list of some of my favourite time-vacuum websites. What I mean by that is a website that you can visit and then lose half your day to, by the sheer amount of great stuff to read, watch, play, listen to, learn, etc etc.
They could be news pages, or a site where there is always something new to see, or maybe just a database that you can lose hours mining for interesting information.
I'm sure we all have stuff like this in our bookmarks, so I'm turning to the hive mind for help to expand my list of really interesting sites.

I want to put together some of my photos for a site but don't know where to begin. I'm not confident with my design skills, and I wonder if I have any photos that are really good enough. I usually just post photos/snapshots on flickr for friends but I have had people contact me wanting to use my photos- so maybe they aren't so bad...Any suggestions for how to start? I am, preferably, looking for generalist sites which are either global or UK-centric, such as the New Scientist website. Websites which focus on (or have sections on) applied science (especially those with any connection to "appropriate technology") would be particularly relevant.

Okay internet ninjas, can you help me figure out what the crap happened to all this static website's traffic? At the beginning of February '09, visits dropped to about a quarter of what they once were and stayed there, literally overnight.. The culprit looks to be StumbleUpon - referrals went from quadruple digits to doubles even though there was absolutely no change in the site or its (non-existent) marketing. Though I've read up on SU, I still don't really get why this happened. Can you explain and/or offer advice on fixing it?

My family has lost touch with my oldest brother. He is retired and reclusive by nature but we would still like to know where he is living.
The last thing we know is that he sold his home in California some time in 2009 and then seems to have disappeared.
He may have moved out of the country as I can imagine he wasn't very happy with the Obama election and he had mentioned in the past his desire to move away from the U.S. either to Ireland or Buenos Aires.
Can anyone suggest a few good "finder" sites, hopefully free or nominally priced?
