Everything there is to know about programming and making websites, vol. 1

I want to learn about programming and making websites. Where to start, and how to proceed from there? I know a few html tags, I know what CSS is, and I know what Python is, as well as JavaScript, Perl, Ruby, etc. A vague sense of what PHP, MySQL, Lamp, Apache are.

I also know about W3C, HTML Dog, Learning Python, Think like a Computer Scientist, Learning to Program (by Alan Gauld), Python Programming, the MIT courses, the HeadFirst books, etc.

But where do I start? In what order? Does it matter? Do I just pick one book or course and start there? Would it be stupid to read one of the HeadFirst books while reading Python Programming? While doing one of the MIT courses? While reading about CSS?

I think I can guess what the answers are going to be, but I'd like to hear your input, just the same.

Educational Media

Can you recommend some great educational media for my nearly two year old daughter? I am looking for good DVD's, computer / iPhone software, or websites that I can load up for 30-60 minutes a day. I would like something she can learn from, but if she is having fun, that is cool as well. Right now she is a Dora and Diego addict. I just got her a few LeapFrog preschool DVD's that she loves. She can sing her ABC's and can count to 10 in English and Spanish. She is just starting to be able to answer "How does the letter A, B, C, etc. go?' She knows how to flip pages and push buttons on the iPhone. Are there any computer learning games that a two year old could handle. Flash games? iPhone games? Answers to this question do not involve telling me to take my daughter outside. I am familiar with the debunking of Baby Einstein. I would just like to find some good stuff for her to watch, play or interact with. General toy recommendations are good as well.

Where can I store my files?

Would online storage sites (livedrive, adrive, humyo, JungleDisk) monitor uploaded content and delete illegal or pornographic files? Which site is most stable and likely to last long term? After a catastrophic external hard drive failure, I am looking for a reliable online storage site for my (mainly media) files. Data backup would be a bonus feature, but is not necessary.

The problem is that some of the files I will be uploading have been downloaded illegally, and some are pornographic. I do not wish to distribute or share these files with anyone - this is purely for my own storage. Currently I am looking at livedrive, adrive, humyo, and JungleDisk.

My fears are:

a.) The RIAA will sue the site for a list of people with illegal content (as suggested in this thread about humyo),

b.) The site will see that I uploaded illegal content and delete the files or my entire account without notice. (Livedrive's Terms of Service scares me: "You may use Livedrive for lawful purposes only. Livedrive may remove any material for which you are not an authorised user of the material's copyright without notice.")

c.) The site will see the pornography and delete it (obscene content? I don't know, would they even care about this?).

d.) The site will close, taking all my files with it.

In terms of the main sites I'm comparing (livedrive, adrive, humyo, and JungleDisk), does anyone know anything about the content allowed on these sites, and how apt the sites are to delete illegal or pornographic files? Do you know how stable they are and which is most likely to last, well, forever?

I'm a pro designer and I don't know why my new pages aren't showing up!

Changes to ComCast-hosted website no longer show up when viewed online, but look fine on my end and when viewing pages on their server. Why? This has never been a problem before, but I've recently made changes to my website and posted them via Dreamweaver's FTP feature. Pages look correct on my (local) site and when I view them as uploaded to ComCast, through Dreamweaver, they also reflect the changes. But try to view them in a browser, and none of the changes show up - images, text or Flash galleries. And yes, they've been checked on other computers and other browsers.

After talking via chat to someone at ComCast (who simply disconnected me when she ran out of things to say - typical) and someone on the phone who was *completely* ineffective and didn't even understand the concept of FTP, I'm not sure what to do. I'm a web professional and this is a new one. Do I need to host my site elsewhere and just start anew? I need to get this resolved because this is my portfolio site.

The site, if it matters, is www.amymalkoff.com.

Thanks in advance for any suggestions.
