Why does McAfee have a problem with my website?

So I recently completed a project, and was sharing the news with people on Facebook - but Facebook blocked the link to my website because it was apparently on some spammy/malware blacklist. I did some investigation, and my site comes up clean on every security scan thing I tried, except McAfee SiteAdvisor. It seems likely that it's a false positive, possibly due to my shared hosting. If there's a legitimate security issue, though, I'd like to find out what it is so I can fix it - but I don't know how I can do that. [more inside]

How worried should I be that my system has been compromised?

A couple of days ago I clicked a legit-looking result from a Google search and got to a page of hackery-looking type saying that my system now belonged to somebody else. I backed away fast, but tried it again out of curiosity and the same thing happened. I didn't cap the screen and now I can't find the page, but can somebody hijack my computer (Mac running Safari this week for some reason) just because I clicked a link? This might be a laughable question, but since this has never happened to me before I don't know how seriously to take it!

Why a picture of a watering can?

How do sites choose their security pictures? I'm talking about the images that some sites (like banks' websites) use so that you know you are logging into to the real site and not some spoof site (at least I think that's what they're for). [more inside]

What program will build my company website?

I will soon be put in charge of putting together a secure website for my company. It won't be terribly complex (I think), and it doesn't have to look terribly pretty, but as a relative newbie to something like this, I need some advice as to what software to use. [more inside]

Securing open directories on a website

Securing a website: I just bought a domain and some web space. My immediate question is: how do I "close" my directories, so that everyone in the world can't browse them just by typing in the directory URL. My larger question is: what are the best practices for securing a website or a weblog? [more inside] [more inside]

As a new webmaster, what should I do to protect my sites from hacking?

I'm new to the running a website thing. Reading the log files I noticed that people are already trying to hack me. Right now its the basic look for frontpage access (which, obviously, I don't have as I write everything in textpad) but I want to know what steps should I take to secure the server? How can I protect ftp directories, monitor bandwidth theft in the form of linking to images, etc.? can I prevent that all together? [more inside]
