There was once a website called something like "You Look Nice Today" that had fake first-world-problem entries for every day, along the lines of "Happy Left Your ID at the Overpriced Bar Day," followed by little second-person ficlets that may or may not have related to the day. Do you remember what this website was actually called, and do you have a link to it (or to its archive if it's defunct)?
I'm looking for websites that have an autoplaying, looping background video of a landscape on the front page, color or black and white both OK. I'm trying to work out the options with a website like this with a client and we are in search of additional examples. Thanks!
I'm looking to redesign my personal research site and I'm thinking to use a blogging platform such as WordPress; however, I can't seem to find any good, clean and modern templates. In particular, I would like to add sections for my publications, recent news, scripts I have written, and my upcoming talks / presentations. Does anyone have suggestions for a robust platform and any themes that I could use for the site? Thanks!
So, I'm trying to pay the filing fees online that I never got around to. The personal tax account I made, my business tax ID number is attached to as well, HOWEVER, it's not indicating that I owe anything. I looked everywhere on the site menu to see how I can pay and it says I owe nothing (I owe a lot, even with no sales). Tax man is after me and I don't know what to do, please help! I'm in NY.
I want to build a simple (?) HTML form that will generate, from user selections, a line of text that a user can then copy to the clipboard. This would make workflow easier for myself and about a dozen of my colleagues, and also reduce spelling errors. [more inside]
I loved The Dissolve as a film site with good, smart writers who wrote thoughtful reviews and features without all the linkbaity cruft found almost everywhere else. I enjoyed their upper-middlebrow approach in that they could speak intelligently about both art and mainstream films. Is there anything else out there like The Dissolve that I could seek out as a substitute? [more inside]

I remember recently reading a website that highlighted smaller/lesser-known American cities and talked about why they were great places to live, as an alternative to trendy cities like Austin, Asheville, etc. The article I remember reading was about a town in Texas that had beautiful architecture, complete with lots of photos. I thought it was called something like "you should live here" or "you should move here", but those aren't turning up any Google hits. Does anyone know what this might have been?

I've recently been involved in working on a project that includes an assessment tool, essentially a questionnaire created in Moodle. The client is having difficulty seeing past the bleakness of the pages without in graphical content so I'm now looking for a Moodle/Web designer. How can I find someone to work with me on this? I remember discovering a site in, god, 2007 or 2008 I think, possible through Metafilter, that had a theme every month (I very much remember the theme 'Anarchy') and published a number of essays around that theme. Not essays by readers, essays by scholars. I think the essays somehow had to be written in reaction to each other. It was super interesting, but I lost track of it and now I don't know what it was called anymore, or even whether it still exists. Anyone know what I'm talking about?
So I recently completed a project, and was sharing the news with people on Facebook - but Facebook blocked the link to my website because it was apparently on some spammy/malware blacklist. I did some investigation, and my site comes up clean on every security scan thing I tried, except McAfee SiteAdvisor. It seems likely that it's a false positive, possibly due to my shared hosting. If there's a legitimate security issue, though, I'd like to find out what it is so I can fix it - but I don't know how I can do that. [more inside]

Someone (?) registered and account on Thumbtack with my e-mail address. I've sent multiple e-mails to support and only really gotten a "your message has been forwarded to IT Support" response (via ZenDesk). Is there anything else I can do to get their attention? Any other avenues to pursue? [more inside]
I have seen fashion/clothing sites where on the product page the brand has dress/pant/shirt etc. options. There is a blank image of the pants, etc. Below the image is a choice of colors or design. When you scroll over a color you then see what the color will look like on the pants. Does anyone know any brands that have this on there sites? I have seen them in the past yet none of them are coming to mind. I am building a website right now and would like to show this to my designer.

I stumbled across a site a few weeks ago which would put up an image of some sort and ask you to write what question came to your mind. I think the point was just to collect the questions and look at them (but it asked you to make an account before you could see more than a few of the other peoples' questions, and I never did that). I've forgotten where I found it. Does anyone know what site this was? [more inside]

Web developers: My university research lab wants to drag our website out of 1998 to a more easy-to-maintain and attractive design. We're tending towards using Wordpress, mostly for its large install base and plugin market. However our website won't follow the typical blog page/post format that Wordpress seems to support by default - it's more like a library with inter-related content types. Something like this is beautiful but probably out of our budget. Those with Wordpress experience, what default features should we try to use? Or is there a plugin / theme that does what we want already? [more inside]
Silly question about CSS3 background images that change size to "cover" shifting dimensions. If you have an image that changes size while snipping off the sides to cover an area, is there a good way to predict its "cover" behavior, so that a piece of HTML text can follow right along with it, so as to fit over a certain spot on the image? I'd like to hire a web design and marketing company that is specialized in my industry. I need to go on a SEVERE media diet, but I crave media that is intellectually stimulating. On TV, I limit myself to culinary and travel shows, a form of "Mind Sorbet," if you will. I also like to think. I want podcasts, downloadable lectures, and websites that promote a positive, and even spiritual (but not religious!) outlook for today and the future. I want resources that are not selling me anything, per se. I'm OK paying for legitimate content! People have to make a living - I get that! I just want to avoid copious "up sell" sales techniques. Can you suggest anything online I might enjoy? [more inside]

Some time in the last year (maybe two years, at most) I saw a simple, modern site that recommended a single device in multiple categories of hardware (monitors, laptops, vacuum cleaners, electric toothbrushes, etc., etc.). The home page was a grid of the categories, and then you clicked through to ~2 paragraphs explaining why the particular device was so great. I think in some categories there were "budget" and "money is no object" recommendations, but the basic idea was to do your thinking for you, and tell you exactly what model to buy. Does anyone know what site I'm thinking of?

A month or two ago I saw a video someone had made of an exchange they had with a customer at work. The video had two cutesy CGI dog-like animals talking with very basic gestures and motions. It googled the watermark in the corner of the video and it took me to the site the guy had used to create the video. The name was four letters long but it wasn't a real word. There were multiple themes or scenes you could select, enter dialog, etc. Most of the themes were very cutesy- animals, flowers, etc. The speech seemed to be rendered by some typical voice-to-text software as it was very flat with no inflection. Overall it was a pretty easy to use website. [more inside]
