I have a video uploaded on Youtube that I'd like to add an annotation to - a link to a Google Map that I created. But for some reason Youtube only allows links to a few select destinations (e.g. another video, a personal webpage).
Is there anyway I can get around this?

I am curious about the process of scaling a website from a small, shared hosting site all the way up to "one of the biggest 10 sites on the Internet" scale. I've heard terms like "dedicated hosting," "sharding the database" etc., but I'm sure there's a lot more that I haven't heard about. What changes on the backend through this process, and is there a typical order that those changes occur?

I stumbled across a site a few weeks ago which would put up an image of some sort and ask you to write what question came to your mind. I think the point was just to collect the questions and look at them (but it asked you to make an account before you could see more than a few of the other peoples' questions, and I never did that). I've forgotten where I found it. Does anyone know what site this was? [more inside]

I'm a professional (part-time) photographer--I know next to nothing about web hosting/design/whatever. I want to switch from having a portfolio/sales website through Zenfolio (with a custom domain name hosted by Dreamhost) to having a website totally hosted by Dreamhost (with Shootproof for portfolio/sales). How can I mess around with setting up a new site (probably a Wordpress site with one-click install on Dreamhost)--I need this to be easy) without breaking my old site before I'm ready to use a new one? I'm looking for blogs that are about the life of the person writing them instead of just a single topic. Like, maybe an author keeps a blog and writes about cooking and being an author and trips to Mexico, or a reporter in Germany talks about being a reporter but also their deep love of jazz. Something that's about the many things in a person's life. Caveat: Nothing too focused on a family, please - just individuals. Bonus points for people with super-interesting lives or for people in their twenties.

I am starting a music/lifestyle blog. I want to be able to post songs from the artists on the blog (with their permission of course) on the blog's Facebook page to get the word of mouth going. I don't have enough web expertise to code from scratch, but if I had a player I could customize, I can modify the look and feel to my the blog. Any ideas on a Flash based mp3 player I could use? It could work on other platforms but it definitely has to work on Facebook too.
PS. thinking of something along the lines of what soundcloud uses www.facebook.com/soundcloud

A friend of mine shares a similar interest, and I want to invite him to partner up because I think it will be more fun and easier to get up and running with a partner. I'd like to propose we officially create a partnership with a contact and all that so he has incentive. But I've done or/am doing the lion's share of the work, at least initially. What's a fair deal? I'm looking to start backpacking/rough camping this year, and I've had a hard time picking a guide. Can you recommend a book (preferred) or a website for this sort of thing? I've done some not-so-rough campground camping before, but it was alway drive-in camping. We'd love to start off with over nighters and work our way up from there. We don't know what type of pack/tent/gear to get at all. Bonus: guides for the tri-state (Philadelphia-New Jersey-Delaware) area camping/packing would be nice, too. Thanks!

I've got an idea for a website I'd like to do - I want to create, together with my website visitors, a sort of "choose your own adventure." I would set up the story up to a point, then the people who visit the site could come up with ideas as to which way the story would go. The top three up voted choices become the next part of the adventure, which I then flesh out. I would update once a week; this just sprung into my head, and it sounds like a cool creative project for me to do. I also have a talented artist that would like to contribute. Unfortunately, I have no experience in web site design, and am lost as how to begin.
Please help me learn how to design a website so I could set up this kind of project! Details inside. [more inside]

In 2014,what options are now available to an entrepreneur with very limited tech knowledge? Is it now more feasible to build a (Minimum Viable Product) site using more turnkey methods, like site builders, pre-made themes, etc., than it used to be? I realize that really getting something tuned to where I ultimately want it will require tech help. But to get the ideas roughed in and functioning, so as to attract investment and help, what can a non-programmer do/use nowadays?

Web developers: My university research lab wants to drag our website
out of 1998 to a more easy-to-maintain and attractive design. We're tending towards using Wordpress, mostly for its large install base and plugin market. However our website won't follow the typical blog page/post format that Wordpress seems to support by default - it's more like a library with inter-related content types. Something like this
is beautiful but probably out of our budget. Those with Wordpress experience, what default features should we try to use? Or is there a plugin / theme that does what we want already? [more inside]

Someone has created a site via Google Sites that is radically defaming myself and my family. We're not talking about a 12 year playing a prank. It's a systematic attack with the most egregious accusations one can imagine. They're parroting my personal business site and posting info that is not only libelous, but fantastically horrible. The junk they've posted about myself, my wife and our two small children is heartbreaking. We believe we know who it is (but have no proof) and have contacted the FBI on advice of a lawyer. They've told us they'll call us once they get jurisdiction figured out and the cybercrime guys take a look. The kind SAIC looked at the site and understood the problem but only got the ball in motion. That could take weeks/months for them to move on this and the site needs to come down, now.

My dad is a consulting structural engineer. His current approach to billing clients is to finish a job (or portion of a job) and email files along with an invoice generated in (I think) quickbooks. This works fine for his regular architecture firm clients- he knows that they will pay, even if they take 90 days or whatever. The problem is little jobs for people that will probably never hire him again- say, someone who has a sagging beam in their house, and hires him to take a look at it and make a plan for a fix. Once they have the files they need, there isn't much leverage for him to get them to pay, and the amount isn't really enough to take them to court over. What he would like to do is be able to email them an invoice with a link. That link would take the client to a secure website where they can enter a credit card payment, and, after it goes through, give them access to the files that they paid for. Does such a tool exist, preferably as a plug-in or part of something like Freshbooks or the ecommerce portion of Square? [more inside]

I didn't cap the screen and now I can't find the page, but can somebody hijack my computer (Mac running Safari this week for some reason) just because I clicked a link? This might be a laughable question, but since this has never happened to me before I don't know how seriously to take it!

My PC has about 1.5TB of HD memory, and about 75% of it is free. And 2GB more of RAM was recently installed, increasing total RAM to about 6GB. But I am discovering that has little effect on why a program would display an out of memory message. I access the program, which is a website builder, from my desktop. Each time the program crashes, I find changes to work most recently done. And now, I am afraid to continue working on one of the saved versions because of the possibility of more crashes. I tried the Microsoft Fix It for OOM errors, but it didn't seem to help. And I've been exchanging messages with Serif, but the answers haven't been as helpful as I've hoped.
Why is this happening and what, if anything, can I do to find out what is stealing the memory and stop it?

I have been working for a small non-profit for a little less than a year, and one of my major projects has been to manage a newly created website where we sell our publications. I don't have much experience with website administration, and have learned a lot on the job, but I seem to have hit a wall with coming up with an efficient, streamlined process for keeping track of all of the customer service and order related pieces and correspondence. I figure there must be existing programs or systems that I could use, instead of having to come up with something from scratch, but the caveat is that it would have to be free or at least low-cost. Which is mostly fine! But I don't think I have a good sense of how different musicians have influenced each other or how people who make music define the sort of music they make.
