Our VPS webhost was acquired by a larger firm, and slowly moved from managed hosting to unmanaged hosting. Our Plesk/Parallels server was compromised last night. In order to get it back online, I had to backup the old server, then have it wiped/reset.
I'm looking for a third party server administrator to help move email files from the backup to the accounts on the reinstalled server.

I've recently created a small hobby site using wordpress and currently hosted on wordpress.com. It is a niche site and I will have a number of product recommendations that I feel would be valuable to monetize. I'd like to add affiliate links (specifically Amazon.com) or possibly use adsense but that's a no no on wordpress.com. Can anyone help me through the myriad of options for hosting by providing some recommendations?

I'm with a managed VPS webhost and apparently I've outgrown my current plan. Please help me figure out if it will be worth the added expense to move up a tier, or if there are things I can do to minimize my consumption of resources.

I am currently using 000webhost and am in need of a change. Lately it has been slow loading and right now the server is timing out altogether.
I'm studying web design at the moment so it's not the end of the world that this happens now as the only people checking out my site are my instructors. However, in the not so distant future I would like to go pro and host my portfolio on my domain so the server going down for hours on end at any time just isn't acceptable.
So... which free (or relatively cheap) webhosts do you recommend?
Thank you so much for your suggestions! :)

I'm looking for a new web host for my very low traffic personal resume/portfolio site. Caveat: they must be willing to host several non-copyrighted MP3s produced by me and linked only from the site itself. How might I go about searching for hosts that will definitely allow such files?

My Yahoo small business account (webhosting) was closed because my autopay credit card expired. I called to try to reopen and was led to believe that my website would be put back up like old times once I signed up for another year of webhosting. This does not now seem to be the case and I am now going to cancel the order within the 30 day period. Who do you recommend as the best webhost provider for a very small service business? (HTML5 capability would be nice.)
I need to get up and running with someone else asap before i miss more emails/potential clients. Also, should I use the new webhost provider for email or something like googleapps?
Thank you for any advice.

I have a client with 8GB of data I need to transfer from old web host (Powweb) to new one (Dreamhost). Old web host has no shell access and kills single FTP transfers at ~500MB. There are tons of files in tons of folders. Both hosts allow php and perl. How should I do this?

What are the steps involved in moving registered domains to another host? I'd like to move a number of domains from 1&1 to WebFaction so I can run Django apps easily. An extra wrinkle is that one of the domains needs to be assigned/given to another person who will do with it what they will.

When you type www.mydomain.com you get to see the homepage of my blog. However, whatever link you click, from articles to adminstration pages etc still go to www.mydomain.webhost.com/article/blah_blah.
How do you make this go away?

Web hosting company tells me that they don't allow me to setup email forwarders to external addresses (So I can make bob@mydomain.com get sent to bob@gmail.com). Their reason? If any spam comes through the forwarder, they will get blamed and labeled as spammers. True or BS?

My friends have a webhosting account with
Network Solutions. NetSol seems to be saying that you cannot point a
.ca domain-name to that account. Is that really true? Are
.Mac accounts compatible with .ca domains? If the answer to both is no, can you recommend a webhost for .ca domains? (They have already bought the domain.) [
NB: I don't want to just use a page forwarder - that is, I want www.mysite.ca/blogs/newblog etc urls to work.] Thanks!

What free, open-source projects can I run in a privately accessible portion of my webspace that would be useful to me in terms of making things more practical in my own life (think Lifehacker-43 Folders kind of stuff)? I'd prefer Mefites' personal experiences with their own installs over linkage that you've seen but never tried — although I'll take either one.

Is there an easy way to find out which domain names are using the same shared hosting server? Ideally, there is a web site or free download (OS X preferred) that can tell me which domain names resolve to a particular ip address. I've fooled around with most of the functions on
samspade.org and haven't seen one that does this.

I want to install phpBB on my website, but I have a basic question to which I haven't been able to find the answer yet. If I am using a MySQL database behind MT for my weblog, can I install phpBB on the same database and assume it will just build additional tables in MySQL? Or does it require a completely separate database that would be addressed differently?
