Ecommerce starting out - 1. Can anyone suggest the best way to do a highly custom ecommerce web site? 2. I know there is Drupal, but haven't really seen any example Drupal sites that impress me. Should I knuckle down and learn to use Magento, or is there a friendlier option that will do everything I need? I am building an commerce site for a small business that needs to serve both the general public and their wholesale clientele. I've got some experience with several Wordpress-based ecommerce solutions, but am I going to find them limiting in the long run? [more inside]

I've built plenty of websites. I've never built an e-commerce website. I generally use Dreamhost as a host and Expression Engine as a CMS. What's my next step for building an e-commerce site for a new client? Resources? Recommendations? etc. I'm in Canada if that makes a diff; products will ship world-wide.

I'm building a website for a local store; they want a small catalog to sell a few of their products online.
