Should I charge this project hourly, or by salary?

I'm a designer and front-end web developer who has always charged hourly. I was just offered a great part-time opportunity (20hrs/week) which pays half a salary - less than I'd be paid hourly. Please help me negotiate. [more inside]

Mid Career- Do I need a degree?

I'm a web designer/developer. I've been self taught my whole life, but now that I'm getting higher up in my career and more people interested in me as upper level management experience. Career change, grad school, debt, and you. I mean me.

I am a web developer with decent abilities but a growing frustration with the work. I have identified an area that I would like to pursue - Human-Computer Interaction. I've been struggling with how to proceed with what seems like the inevitable next step in my working life and I'm hoping MeFi can be my surrogate mentor. I'd like to ask anon for employer-related reasons, which means more information than you may require inside. [more inside]

How do I maintain professional ownership of a potentially inflammatory, but awesome, project?

I have an awesome secret work project, but I'm worried that I'm going to get in trouble if I pursue it. Who can I get to help? How can I best negotiate the office politics? Essentially what I want to do is overhaul our website, but it not my place to do so, nor can I easily keep credit for my idea. A little more detail inside (sorry to be so vague)... [more inside]
