chat between a Mac and a PC

I have a Logitech Messenger webcam and a Mac (10.3.9) and I downloaded the macam software. How do I chat with a friend who has a PC and another Logitech webcam? Should we use AIM? Yahoo? Excuse me if the question's too easy but I'm a total webcam n00b and what I found on Google is quite contradictory. Thanks!

Is my USB broadcast going to be bogus?

And on the subject of USB, I just bought parents a webcam for Christmas - the idea being that I buy one too and then we can see each other during our weekly chat. Not a Hilton-wannabe, I swear

I'm looking for a workable, not-too-pricey (< $40) windows-compatible webcam to use for casual chatting. the price can go up a little bit of the webcam is awesome. i've looked at other askmefi threads, but the advice there seems to be get an isight (don't have $150) or logictech and creative labs cameras are good. but does anyone have any specific model recommendations? i was thinking the Creative Labs NX Pro, the Labtech Webcam Pro, or maybe the Creative Labs Webcame Live!, based solely on Amazon reviews as there doesn't seem to be much in webcam review sites out there.

Webcam Frustration

Webcam frustration: I have a Logitech QuickCam Pro 3000, and it's driving me up the wall. When it's not in use, the 'active' light is always on, but when I try to use it with any application, it goes off and the camera does nothing. I've done all the logical stuff I can think of - checked the Logitech site, Googled for this error, uninstalled and reinstalled software and hardware, changed USB ports and toyed with finding a major religion to cling to, but so far nothing makes any difference... so please help me, MetaFilter friends, or Mr WebCam will become surprisingly intimate with Mr Hammer... thanks!

Unplugging firewire webcam causes kernel panic

Why does my Mac sometimes go into kernel panic when I unplug the firewire webcam? It happens on a variety of occasions: sometimes multiple apps are open and CPU usage is high, other times it's right after a fresh reboot. (iBook G3/700Mhz, 384MB RAM, Mac OS X 10.2.8, and the webcam is a Unibrain Fire-I.)

My friend wants to work for an "adult" chat service. How can she do it right?

ifriends? Other "adult" chat services? I have a friend (it's not me! I don't look good enough for this stuff) that is thinking of this as a revenue stream.

She's 25 an seems willing to exploit herself this way; horribly needs healthcare; clearly she is very much an exhibitionist. This is her idea, but just wants to go about it right..

Moral convictions aside - pros? Cons? Best group to pick for this? Is it iFriends or one of the other networks. Something sleazy but safe?

You're totally welcome to contact me directly if you want to protect your anonymity.

Quickcam with OSX?

At one time I had the URL for a website that provided a patch/driver that allowed you to use a Logitech USB Quickcam Messenger -- the ones with the good Christmas rebates? -- with OS X. But now I can't find it, whether via Google or Sourceforge or Google Groups (which appear to be down). Can anyone help? I'm about to belatedly give one to my sister for her Powerbook, and I'd like to be able to, you know, make it work.
