Is it possible to make a browser window and the background of web pages transparent but to leave the text and images opaque? This would be applied to all web pages viewed in the browser, not just for specific pages I am creating. I've looked at several plug-ins and applications that offer transparent browser windows, but nothing so far gives options for selecting colors to leave opaque. I essentially want something to act as a luma or chroma key for browser windows. I'm using OS X. [more inside]
Are there really no web front end design environments that are as stupid simple as MS Access form design for a SQL Server back end? I can write a real clever stored procedure for SQL Server and assign cute and short aliases to every element of the result set and crank out an Access form or forms in no time and distribute it as a light weight front end with only execute permission required. Is there some analog for a web front end? [more inside]

Network guy dipping toes into web development. I want to create a "simple" site. The site would have members enter text and create tags for that text. The user would then generate "reports" based on the tags into templates. The data entered and reports generated would only we viewable by the user that entered it. I guess it would be a multi-user web based Cyrstal reports type of thing. What is the right tool for the job? It would be nice if I could use a pre-build enviroment like a CMS (Drupal, Joomla) as I have access to training and web host offer simple installers. I am savvy with Linux and would prefer free software.

I would like to scrape information from an RSS feed into an Excel-readable text file for a completely legal non-copyright violating use. In a better world, I'd have access to the database that generates the feed, but since this ain't a perfect world it appears that scraping is my best bet. Are there tools that will help me automate this, or programming tutorials that will help me figure it out myself (it's been 15 years since I last write any code beyond simple SQL queries)? I'm looking for 'Folk' Web Cultures. I am thinking of the recent take-down of Geocities, which seemed to refresh people's love of the naff, kitsch aesthetic it was famous for, as a prime example. What are some other folk cultures still lingering in the dark corners of the web? [more inside]

Catastrophic Google-Fu Failure. Help me find these three things: One, a web comic which had a flower with an ASCII art penis on it. Two, a web comic which had peeps and Mal from Firefly. Three, a video of a man doing a yoga flow routine which included L-sit to handstand, scorpion, and back again. Sorry for the grab bag, this stuff is simply driving me nuts. [more inside]

How do you add several additional CSS styles to a web page, when you don't have access to the header or the linked styles sheets? Yes, you can repeatedly declare an inline style for each piece of text, but that defeats the purpose of style sheets. A fuller picture of what is desire, along with backstory is below the fold. My experience using Yelp is that it increasingly sucks. Highly reviewed places can range from decent to abysmal and there is no telling. But one can find some reviewers who seem consistently accurate, and while yelp allows you to follow these folks, it would be much easier if you could FILTER with these folks , but Yelp seems not to want that to happen, for obvious commercial reasons. Could someone develop some way to do that on top of the web site? And if Yelp is unusable for quality reviews, besides CH where else do folks recommend? THanks!

Is there either a Web site or an app for iPhone or iPad that allows you to track the sending and receiving of holiday cards? (If not, there should be!) I see apps that allow you to send e-cards, but I'm sending paper cards. I would love to be able to open my mail, phone in hand, and just type into the phone that I received cards from X, Y and Z so I know to send them cards as well. Not finding anything. I've done this on paper for years, but it seems like someone should have made an electronic easy version by now.
