Is there either a Web site or an app for iPhone or iPad that allows you to track the sending and receiving of holiday cards? (If not, there should be!) I see apps that allow you to send e-cards, but I'm sending paper cards. I would love to be able to open my mail, phone in hand, and just type into the phone that I received cards from X, Y and Z so I know to send them cards as well. Not finding anything. I've done this on paper for years, but it seems like someone should have made an electronic easy version by now.

What's the name of the website where artists can have an idea that they don't have time to do themselves? I forgot to bookmark it. Ie. I have a really good band name idea, but don't have time to do the work so I donate the right for someone to use the idea for a year.

Looking for a social media tool that allows visitors to our website to sign & send a pre-written email (and to possibly add their own comments or edits as well, but that's not 100% necessary) to a group of local politicians. I've seen things like this many many times on social and political campaign websites, but have no idea if there's an out-of-the-box solution or if we need to hire someone to write it. [more inside]

What reference management options exist for Google Docs? Failing that, what other web-based collaboration tools offer reference management, either built-in or by extension via plug-in?

I'm building a blog-like site that will have lots of old stories about a particular rural area. I'll be adding lots of supplemental information about some of the places, people and things the author talks about, and I'm trying to decide how to display it. [more inside]

So, I have a little Wordpress site on Media Temple for photos. Nothing else, just photos. No blog posts, no comments, etc. It's occurred to me that it's really a static site. And static sites can be hosted on Amazon S3.
I can handle building the site locally and moving it up to S3. But, I'm wondering about updates. It seems to me that if I build a site locally, publish it to S3, that I can do updates by synching S3 with my local file system. Right?
Has anyone done this? Are there apps specifically geared to publishing and maintaining sites on S3?

I've been toying with the idea of starting a website that's sort of half forum, half store. I have a general understanding of how the web works, but I haven't done anything web design-ey for about ten years, and even then I was definitely quite amateur. What would I need to do to get going? Looking for an online resource which will make me into an instant Archivist/Librarian... Ha ha... not really but close. I am setting up an online archive of old records, photos, and other documents. I would like to do this right so that the average Joe can use it but also so that librarians and archivists won't look down their noses at me. Are there any sites out there which have basic information on this sort of thing? [more inside]

I'm trying to find a website. It was a collection of short horror fiction pieces, organized as a bestiary maintained by a secret government organization. It had entries for, I think, a giant preternaturally intelligent and malicious fish-like thing, a haunted subway train, and an orb that acted as a portable black hole or something like that. What was it?

Looking for a network building/maintaining tool. Is there some sort of app (mac or web based) that will allow me to track how long it has been since talking to someone? Ideally I'd like to see one page with a horizontal bar graph with the number of days since last contact on the x-axis. So as the time between talking grows, the bar expands outwards. [more inside]

Probably a perennial question, but stuff changes. I'm looking for recommendations for a host for a non-pro photo site. I've used Fiickr, SmugMug, and ZenFolio. I'm after a host that allows me to muck about with design, CSS and HTML, etc., but doesn't compel mr to admin servers or
worry about installing security updates remotely.
I can admin a server, but, you know, life's too short. Shared host is probably the best bet, but I'd look at renting a slice of a managed server.
Basically, I just wanna build a site that looks like i want, upload photos, and be done with it.

I have a sort of photo sharing website that breaks content up by category. There is not much text on the site, and we've been rejected by Google AdSense on that basis (not enough text). I'd like to find an ad network that will let me supply keywords (e.g., we have a gardening section, so we could sell space for gardening ads on those parts of the site) instead of scanning the site for them. Can anyone recommend an ad network that might do this?
