How do I find a job in IT/Web with lots of experience before I graduate in may?

I am graduating next May (2013) with a Bachelors of Science in Applied Computing Technology from Colorado State University. I have 3 years IT & Network Support experience and just about 2.5 years web development experience through Student positions. I've done the whole freelance thing for the last 5 years as a Wordpress theme guy. How do I approach getting a full time job after college? [more inside]

How to ask client's IT team for SMTP access

I'm running software on a client's server that needs to send email reports. It typically uses sendmail, but we switched the DNS over to the client's own special MX records instead of the local mail exchanger. My software can use SMTP--what do I need to know in order to ask the client's IT guy for access without looking like a complete idiot? [more inside]

Help me get a client's video to play on his site

I'm a part-time web designer. I've got some experience with video, but not a lot. I have a writer client who has a video trailer for one of his books. Can anyone tell me what I need to do to get this thing to play nicely with browsers other than IE? Or should I just say the hell with it and put it on YouTube with links? [more inside]

internet productivity for dummies

I'm trying to install some web-blocking functions on both Internet Explorer and Mozilla, but can't seem to get what I want. I'm blocking IE through restricting the content directly on the Options tabs, and using Leechblock for Mozilla. So talk to me like I'm stupid ... what I want to do, simply, is block all .com domains, except for 2 or 3 specific sites. Why can't I figure out how to do this?

Chroma/Luma Key for OS X Browsers

Is it possible to make a browser window and the background of web pages transparent but to leave the text and images opaque? This would be applied to all web pages viewed in the browser, not just for specific pages I am creating. I've looked at several plug-ins and applications that offer transparent browser windows, but nothing so far gives options for selecting colors to leave opaque. I essentially want something to act as a luma or chroma key for browser windows. I'm using OS X. [more inside]

Web front end for SQL Server?

Are there really no web front end design environments that are as stupid simple as MS Access form design for a SQL Server back end? What can I use to make my website?

Network guy dipping toes into web development. I want to create a "simple" site. The site would have members enter text and create tags for that text. The user would then generate "reports" based on the tags into templates. The data entered and reports generated would only we viewable by the user that entered it. I guess it would be a multi-user web based Cyrstal reports type of thing. What is the right tool for the job? It would be nice if I could use a pre-build enviroment like a CMS (Drupal, Joomla) as I have access to training and web host offer simple installers. I am savvy with Linux and would prefer free software.

Help me populate a spreadsheet by scraping an RSS feed.

I would like to scrape information from an RSS feed into an Excel-readable text file for a completely legal non-copyright violating use. In a better world, I'd have access to the database that generates the feed, but since this ain't a perfect world it appears that scraping is my best bet.
