Getting tired of mandatory OCD

An annoying but necessary part of my job is logging into a company website and checking to see if a number has gone up. If it has gone up, I start working on stuff to make the number go down. Checking the website every five seconds gets boring really fast and really cuts into the time I spend working on other things. Does anyone know of some programs out there that will automate this checking and notify me if the number has gone up? More deets inside! [more inside]

Facebook's 'eavesdrop' setting?

So what function of Facebook is it that lets my friends see the comments I've made on pages I like - which they have NOT liked - and comment on them? I've gotten into several conversations lately made more uncomfortable by someone not in the community I'm commenting to jumping in and making a comment about my participation. I thought I had my settings pretty nailed down, but can't figure out where this one is. Thanks. [more inside]

Chroma/Luma Key for OS X Browsers

Is it possible to make a browser window and the background of web pages transparent but to leave the text and images opaque? This would be applied to all web pages viewed in the browser, not just for specific pages I am creating. I've looked at several plug-ins and applications that offer transparent browser windows, but nothing so far gives options for selecting colors to leave opaque. I essentially want something to act as a luma or chroma key for browser windows. I'm using OS X. [more inside]

What can I use to make my website?

Network guy dipping toes into web development. I want to create a "simple" site. The site would have members enter text and create tags for that text. The user would then generate "reports" based on the tags into templates. The data entered and reports generated would only we viewable by the user that entered it. I guess it would be a multi-user web based Cyrstal reports type of thing. What is the right tool for the job? It would be nice if I could use a pre-build enviroment like a CMS (Drupal, Joomla) as I have access to training and web host offer simple installers. I am savvy with Linux and would prefer free software.
