I'm looking for examples of websites that have successfully enhanced a research community (academic or artistic) with a dynamic online/social/mutual-portfolio presence. Blog and social media based hubs, perhaps, that showcase the possibilities of web portfolio/research integration for
academic and
creative purposes.

My company got lucky and we're working on a web site for an amazing historical society, showcasing a ton of documents from their collection.
Do you have any examples of how historical documents are being showcased online? Do you have any suggestions for what they
don't do that you wish they would?

Looking for a network building/maintaining tool. Is there some sort of app (mac or web based) that will allow me to track how long it has been since talking to someone? Ideally I'd like to see one page with a horizontal bar graph with the number of days since last contact on the x-axis. So as the time between talking grows, the bar expands outwards.

Probably a perennial question, but stuff changes. I'm looking for recommendations for a host for a non-pro photo site. I've used Fiickr, SmugMug, and ZenFolio. I'm after a host that allows me to muck about with design, CSS and HTML, etc., but doesn't compel mr to admin servers or
worry about installing security updates remotely.
I can admin a server, but, you know, life's too short. Shared host is probably the best bet, but I'd look at renting a slice of a managed server.
Basically, I just wanna build a site that looks like i want, upload photos, and be done with it.

I have a sort of photo sharing website that breaks content up by category. There is not much text on the site, and we've been rejected by Google AdSense on that basis (not enough text). I'd like to find an ad network that will let me supply keywords (e.g., we have a gardening section, so we could sell space for gardening ads on those parts of the site) instead of scanning the site for them. Can anyone recommend an ad network that might do this?

We are a small company with 3 subdivisions, each with their own sub-domain:
Main Website:
www.widgets.com
Sub Domain 1: things.widgets.com
Sub Domain 2: stuff.widgets.com
Sub Domain 3: morestuff.widgets.com
Right now we can login to our webhost's control panel & admin our website. We are wondering if there's a web host out there that would give us a separate control panel for each subdomain so that the head of each division can admin his own subdomain?

I run a small website for a sport I enjoy and am passionate about - traffic is good (at least I'm happy) and in the last few weeks I've been starting to get some press coverage. All good so far...
A PR company have asked me to submit a 'media pack' - I have no idea what that is, or what might be included in there - I have asked the contact, but I'm thinking I should try and get ahead of the game.

I'm founding a startup! Yaaay! I have some friends who like my idea and want to help me. However, I have no money to pay them, so I'm guessing that I'll need to give them a piece of the action. I don't want to get screwed, but at the same time, I don't want to be perceived as a jerk. What is the most fair way to divide up the pie? What's the best way to approach this discussion without coming off as a jerk?

I'm looking for a web collaboration tool to schedule volunteers. I think a spreadsheet would work best, but I could manage with a document as well. There will be about 5-10 of us that will have editing abilities.
The most important part: I don't want them to have to create an account to edit the document. They should be able to edit by just clicking the unique link that I send them via email. I don't mind creating an account myself.
Does anyone have an idea for a tool that would work in this situation? Bonus points if we can view/edit on iPhone and Android. Thanks!
