I want to build/buy/hire someone to make something that lets visitors pick (multiple) geographical areas off a map. Something similar to
this but better. Or, if you've got a better way to choose regions of a city that aren't a clickable map, what are they?

Best designed "information" sites? I've done a lot of web sites for bands / independent films / small businesses. I've now been asked to create a site for a large government organization and am scouring the web for design inspiration. What are your favorite sites (not necessarily gov't) that are clean/modern and well organized and/or offer features you think are important to a site that has a heft of wide-ranging information?

Suppose I wanted to build a web site on which a number of items was listed that were available for members of that web site to sign out. I would want the status of items (in/out) to be viewable by people looking to take out items in real time. What would I need to do this and who would I hire to do it? In addition, what would I expect to pay? What's the best way to find such a person?

I've been asked to redesign a medium-sized corp (60 employees) web site. The current host is dreadful and I want to switch it to Dreamhost, who I use for all my small clients without problem. How will moving their web site/domain to a different host affect their email? [MI]
