We have a nice small place in a large building. The basement is damp and has had some mold issues and we have no hope that paper (e.g., books) will not be damaged if we put it in normal boxes. But, we also have a growing family and limited space. Some stuff will go to the curb, but we need a waterproof storage solution. Are there waterproof storage solutions that are a step above trashbags in a rubbermaid? Something affordable but decent?
I'd like a mattress protector for my daughter's double/full bed that's waterproof (no milk, pee or vomit leaking through), silent (doesn't make crinkly noises when rolling around on it) and durable (stays waterproof after many washes). Any suggestions?
I'm moving from a warm, dry place to a cold and frequently damp one. I have a Sportsac hobo tote that I love but it soaks through in even a light fog. What's a good replacement shoulder bag that's professional and water resistant (or even waterproof)? [more inside]
A friend will be crashing in my basement for a little while and I'd like to make my basement that is a little dark and damp more habitable for him to crash temporarily. Snowflakes and pictures inside. [more inside]

I saw a guy at the pool the other day wearing a headphone apparatus, he said it was a waterproof mp3 player. Upon checking Amazon I see there is a wide variety of such devices. What's the best combination of value and reliability for something like this? It needs to be wireless, to not get tangled up, and somehow it needs to not come loose during vigorous lap swimming… anyone know what works? (By the way I see this question from 2010, and I will check out the one recommended product, but maybe there is more on the market now four years later?)
The idea of playing Cards Against Humanity in a hot tub sounds awesome. How can I make this happen? Bonus points for waterproofing options that don't cost hundreds of dollars and/or don't take hundreds of hours of work.

I've recently been bitten by the running bug. Yay! I live in Portland and we're entering into our rainy season. I'd like to run listening to music on my smartphone (Samsung Galaxy S3) and not worry about it getting ruined by water damage. Can anyone recommend an armband or other solution? [more inside]
I'd like to get largeish waxed canvas or waxed cotton shoulder/messenger bag. Large enough to hold a number of vinyl records (12x12), bigger is ok, smaller won't work. I'm looking for waxed cotton because it is waterproof and looks cool, but other fabrics would be ok if they don't have logos and are also waterproof.
Fall will be here soon enough, so it's time to refresh our waterproof jackets. What are your favorite brands and methods of application? [more inside]

I'm renovating my bathroom, and want a hand shower mounted in the tile of the batch enclosure, on a hose, like in this image. But it seems like water can get into the hose hole and then collect under the bath. There will be a shower over the bath, although at the other end of the bath to the handheld. My plumber is a bit worried about how to waterproof it. How are these type of retractable hand showers normally waterproofed?

What options can you suggest for replacing carpet in a "catbox room" with something moisture-resistant and easily cleaned? Some of the cats occasionally get confused and miss the boxes. The sub-floor is plywood. I've been thinking along the lines of the 2-part epoxy coating I applied to the concrete garage floor several years ago, but don't know if it works well on wood, which flexes. Flooring companies have pointed out problems with conventional floor coverings either absorbing or being etched by cat urine. The room has a wood-burning stove in it, so something that won't burst into flame if exposed to an occasional ember would be best. X/
My tiled shower walls are water permeable, and it is messing up the adjacent drywall. Two tile guys agree - is a design issue, and re-grouting will not fix. Would cost a small fortune to fix right. I am redoing bathroom in five years or so, but for now, I need cheap waterproofness. What can I do to my walls that will keep water out? [more inside]
I always wear/use leather in rain but they always tell me it's wrong for the material. This is a bit naive but I'm wondering what high quality good looking materials work for coats and bags in rain? I don't mean plastic or nylon looking stuff (although if they're technically the best I'd like to know) but more stylish.. let's say upto $1k/coat
