Filtering frack-edly polluted water

My spouse and I have recently moved to Western Pennsylvania and are really concerned about the pollution to the local drinking water due to fracking (hydraulic fracturing). What are the best ways to filter this water for consumption? What are other health concerns to watch out for (and ways to solve for these)? [more inside]

Ecowater, yea or nay?

Ecowater--thumbs up or thumbs down? We have unbelievably crappy water and are considering buying a whole-house system from them (water softener, reverse osmosis system, and prefilters). I would appreciate hearing your experiences with them.

BritaFilter(ha!)

I have a brita filter pitcher and I bought a 6 pack of filters almost a year ago(to save $$). The past 2 or 3 filters I put in there have had water run through them really fast compared to all the other filters I've used. Could there be a problem with the filters? Have they re engineered them to filter water faster? Are they even working?
