Waterscreen

Looking for a water screen, Where as the water falls, it is chopped up into "pixels" and simple logos, graphics can be formed in the negative space where no water is. This is NOT the type where video is projected onto a waterfall or fogscreen. Has anybody seen this device? Need to rent for an event.

Pimp My Ice Water!

I have an infusion pitcher and I am not afraid to use it! But I need ideas and some basic technicals about timing and storage. Inspired by this question about popsicles, I want to make refreshing, astonishingly creative, non-sugary, home-made waters to replace my resource and money-intensive diet sodas. Iced tea is so ho hum. Help me develop a passion for water again. [more inside]

Best route to snorkeling for a poor swimmer

I'm not a very good swimmer. I can tread water, float on my back somewhat, and do a mediocre backstroke. But in a few months I'm going to Hawaii, and I'd like to have some fun snorkeling. What swimming skills should I focus on trying to learn? Should I start with learning finless swimming things first, such as the front crawl, or jump right into using fins and snorkel? [more inside]

Floating wagon?

I work in the marsh and we need to carry some pretty heavy equipment soon; we have been trying to think of some way we can carry it all. We are thinking of some sort of sled/wagon that could handle diverse ground going from firm ground to puddles/ponds to very muddy, soft ground. Does anybody have good ideas? [more inside]

Tap water question

This morning while cleaning the crock pot, I noticed that the baking soda I was using was foaming up, as if i had added an acid like vinegar. So, I poured some baking soda in a clean bowl, to see if it was the water. It foamed! Is there a reason my tap water would be so acid? The only thing I found on the internet was a vague suggestion the chlorine can cause acidity in the water. [more inside]

Is it safe to drink out of a 15 year old water filter?

Is it safe to drink water filtered by a 15 year old Pur hand-pump camping filter that I haven't used in a decade? I rarely used it even back when I originally got it. I'm going camping tomorrow and just wondering if there's any reason to believe that chemicals in an old water filter may somehow become unsafe or ineffective over time.

Don't drink the brown water

Without warning my hot water (and hot water only) has suddenly started running brown, and when I drain a tub of it silt like material is left in the bottom. I suspect it's rust. After running the water for a long time it does not seem to be going away. Am I right in thinking that this is probably my boiler and it should be replaced? The suddenness seems weird. Also: my family has been showing and bathing in this, could it be harmful in any way?

Glacially slow hot water

Master bathroom shower takes FOREVER to get hot water. The hot water heater is outside, less than fifteen feet from the actual shower. Where did the Scale go?

My hot water pot and coffee machine suddenly (over a period of 2 days) simultaneously completely descaled themselves, leaving piles of scale on their bottoms. This despite no use of descaling agents, or any other efforts to do this. I am thinking something must have changed with our tap water to have done this, but can't imagine what this would be. Any thoughts or other possibilities?
