Source of phantom wet spot on the parkway?

This weekend, a wet spot appeared on the parkway in front of my house and has persisted: it hasn't grown or shrunk in the 24 hours that I've been aware of it. The soil seems to be wet as far down as I can push a stick, so I'm afraid a pipe below it has sprung an upwards leak. Does anyone have any strategies for diagnosing what the issue is? [more inside]

Can anyone help me identify this weird water pipe in my yard?

I rent, and tonight I heard the sound of running water in my yard. I went outside to investigate and saw that water was spurting upwards out of this black pipe in the yard that is about 8" in diameter and sticks out of the ground about a foot (link to picture inside). The pipe has a cap on it that has a hole in it - it looks like an intentional hole that water is supposed to come out of. However, I've lived here for years and I've never seen or heard this happening. It rained today, and I live in SoCal where it hardly rains, but again, this seemed new. The water coming out was substantial and flooded a bit of my (very small) yard. After a while the water flow petered out. Since then, it's been going on and off at random intervals. I've tried to see if me running the water or flushing the toilet is connected to this, but I'm not sure that there is a correlation. The water coming out looked clear, but smelled a little funky and may have emitted a little steam (I didn't want to touch it to check the temp). The pipe is located less than a foot away from the side of the house and is next to my water heater that is located outdoors in some sort of locker thing. I've left a message for the landlord but wanted to see if anyone has any insight as to what this thing may be, and if this is unusual. Thanks! [more inside]

Looking for pc action-adventure game from the 90's

-PC action-adventure game, mostly action, but I do remember simple adventure things like moving blocks or unlocking doors -first person view -can't remember how health stats and weaponry were viewed -Had to rescue a woman (go figure), but not sure if she was royalty or anything, just motivation to do the journey -Started in kobold (or kobolt) caverns, there was a spider cavern section where it was tunnels burrowed by the spiders themselves, a lava cavern/mining level where you had to break down a rock borer (might have been a laser) -mid to late 90's probably because it's graphics were close to Quake 2, just not as smooth [more inside]

must be something in the water...

This is a question for anyone who knows about houses from the inside out: Do homes ever use aluminum pipes for plumbing? We just had our water tested by the national center for water quality at Heidelberg University using samples from two separate faucets in our home. One sample came back totally normal; the other had double the rate of acceptable aluminum per billion parts. Readings for all other substances were fairly close to each other between the two faucets (and except for the aluminum, no other concern.) Why could one faucet have a higher aluminum rate than another in the same home? [more inside]
