Whale Watching in CA?

Whale Watching in CA, I will be traveling to Bakersfield CA in the next couple of days and spending some time there and in Santa Monica. Anyone know of somewhere I could go and take a whale watching trip while there? (within a reasonable driving distance from either location)

Is tv really and truly bad for toddlers or am I believing the hype?

Where are all the research papers that say television for children under two is bad? I stormed out of mother's group in high dudgeon today (well, actually, I quietly left, but I wanted high dudgeon!) as one of the mums turned on the bloody Wiggles. Everything I've ever read has stated that tv is bad for munchkins under the age of two. But nobody really cites anything.... my baby book does, but it says it's a flawed study and doesn't really say what the study is.

In retrospect, I should have been more analytical of the research myself. I hate what tv does to kids, but I have a feeling I'm going to have to justify my abhorrence in the next few days.

I'm looking for published scientific method papers.... abstracts only if that's all we can view for free... but I guess I should stop with my proselytising till I've got the published facts to back me up.

(And if anyone wants to support me in my outrage that a host would turn on a television when ten 20month toddlers are playing in the room and two are expressly forbidden to watch tv.... please chime in, I'm feeling like a bit of a dickhead at the moment.)

Online videos about courage, survival and adventure. Where? So the couch and I have become as one melded and solidified in our quest to find healing and just get down with convalescing. going to be in this here situation for another 3 weeks and in the process of healing a broken foot, tediousness, boredom and downright depression is taking root.

So where can I find very cool video documentaries about personal stories of courage and adventure online? Anything from true stories, reality TV to just anything inspirational. Got ideas? Please post! My foot, couch and I thank you very much in advance.

Where is a good place to watch NCAA tourney in the Boston 128 area? Looking for a bar with multiple TVs that wouldn't mind some schlub sipping on a few beers while watching several games at once. Food would be a Plus. Along the Route 128 area from say Woburn to Needham.

Am I being spied on at work? IT got into my computer last week and now I hear a little doorbell sound whenever I visit a website that does not belong to the company ... I needed to have more memory installed on my (incredibly slow) computer last week, and had to have IT connect remotely. When the IT guy was done "cleaning things up", I noticed that my computer makes a doorbell sound whenever I visit a not-explicitly-work-related site. He came around to install some memory, and I asked him about it -- if looking for directions, checking gmail was a security violation, or what was up.

He claimed he had no idea, said to try the same thing in Explorer (am using Firefox.) Explorer didn't do it. But this is driving me nuts and making me so paranoid.

I work in the Web group at a large nonprofit and there's a LOT of downtime. I'm not sure what to think here, but it's freaking me out. What say you, MeFites?

What is the best way to see hawks in Flushing Meadows Park, Queens, New York? I live near Flushing Meadows, a large green park, in Queens NY. I've seen hawks on two separate occassions quite by accident. I love watching the birds of prey and snapping some photos. Can anyone recommend some tips on best means of finding them in the area? I have no idea how to start looking. Where? When? Feed em?
