Should I jointly sign a lease with strangers?

DC-Lease-Filter: Should I jointly sign a lease with 2 roommates I just met, wherein each roommate is "jointly and severally responsible for each and every provision in the lease" - including the total rent for the house? [more inside]

Should I move into a month-to-month before finding a long-term place?

I am looking for a place to stay in or near Washington DC - I need to move in by November 1. I have found a place which I could stay for a few months (month-to-month rent) but until I could find something that more closely fits my preferences. Should I go with this place now before it is gone, or should I try to find a place I would be comfortable with long-term within the next week and a half? [more inside]

Should I avoid signing a year-long lease in DC? Can I?

Should I avoid signing a year-long lease for a room in a group house or shared apartment? Is it reasonable to hold out for month-to-month rent, or will I end up with slim pickings? (I am looking in the DC area) [more inside]

Where to live in DC area?

I am moving to DC in a month. I want to live somewhere a short metro ride away from Union Station (I will work near there). Second, I want to be in a place where I can meet nearby single people around my age. (I am a 26 year old male.) I am not a partier, I don't drink much, and I'm not big into night life. I prefer board games, soccer, museums, exploring etc. What do you think would be the best area for me? [more inside]
