Is there a way I can either make use of an active internet connection coming into my apartment, or avoid paying an installation fee to Time Warner in NYC for a connection that already appears to work?

I was watching TV tonight when our Time Warner Explorer 8300 cable box started whirring, our cable shut off, and weird things started appearing on the cable box panel. There were countdowns and APP and hOHD are now interchangeably flashing on the panel. My husband called Time Warner and was told that this may be a hardware problem in which case we can only get the box replaced which means we'll lose everything we've DVR'd. We have a lot of programs saved so if anyone has any advice or experience, please share!

Hello. I have lost my remote for my Sylvania SRT 2319 and am trying to program my Time Warner Universal remote to work with it. I have found the code and the remote will power on and off the TV but it will not control any other features. Any time I press the channel key or a number key the CBL (cable) device button blinks, like it's not registering as a TV button. Does that make sense? What can I do?

So I recently moved, and as I always do, got an account with Time Warner (who are pretty much the only option in the part of Austin where I live). I noticed that my IP was resolving as either "earthlink.net" or "mindspring.com" when it should be "austin.rr.com", but didn't think much of it. However, today I found a letter in the mail containing "important information about your EarthLink account." Wot's, uh, the deal?

I live in NYC, and had AOL for Broadband for my internet service provided to me through Time Warner. AOL recently waived their fee's and is now free. I am left paying Tie Warner about $45 bux a month for broadband service.....I wanna find something cheaper, yet just as fast and efficient...
