I want to hang this picture on the wall, but in a way that makes it look like it's an inch away from the wall. I know how to make that happen with a piece of wood wood and a sawtooth hanger, but are there any ready-made hardware or system that will achieve that? [more inside]

Need a new drawer glide for my wall unit. Can you identify the manufacturer of this furniture (photo) or a source for replacement parts? In 1997 I purchased a modular wall unit from Workbench Furniture, a furniture importer and retailer that went out of business in 2003. I believe they called it the "Venezia wall system". It could be configured many different ways. I know it was made in Italy but i have no other information on the manufacturer. [more inside]

How should I build temporary, attractive walls/dividers on the cheap in my basement? These paper soft walls look great, are flexible and temporary, but cost a small fortune. Looking for an alternative I could simply and cheaply set up myself to block off a 13'x13' section as a "room". The basement is unfinished, dry, with concrete outer walls and wood joists in the ceiling.

I want to paint one of the walls in my bedroom so that it gives the impression of flowing or moving water. The idea is to give a kind of mountain stream effect by:
*putting river rocks along the edge of the wall by the floor
*by making a small floor indoor water fountain with the same rocks for the middle of the wall.
How can I get this effect on the wall? [more inside]

I have an exposed brick wall in my house (it was like that when I moved in). It's quite irregular, and a bit rough, so I'm not sure I really want to paint it. But I would like to prevent the dusting and flaking, without it looking too shiny. Has anyone out there done this? Is it a spray process, or applied with a brush? And some people warn the wall then can't 'breathe.' If anyone's done this I'd appreciate any tips.

I live on a street where the houses are not on the same ground level and so there are retaining walls between the properties. The house on my uphill side was built in the 1920’s and my house was built on a vacant lot between two houses from that era in 1961. Thanks to a brochure of the development in the 20’s, I have a picture of these two neighboring houses when my lot was vacant. The picture clearly shows the walls, or in actuality, the walls that are visible above ground level. These walls were built on top of the real retaining walls and were wood frame inside with chicken wire and plaster over the outside. [more inside]

There's a small crack/dent in the wall by my door where it got kicked by accident. What's my best bet on fixing it? I don't need it to be perfect, but good enough to not be obvious. I've uploaded a few pics. My initial thoughts were to throw some spackle over the crack/hole, smooth it over, and then paint. Or should I just be trying to find someone to pay to do this? Thanks!

In colder weather, while taking a shower, water eventually condenses on our bathroom walls (even with the exhaust fan on). The odd thing, which I cannot figure out, is that a faint yellowish substance appears from nowhere and runs down the wall. I wouldn't notice this on the semi-gloss lavender paint, but it pools on the white wainscotting below. It's an old house but was painted a few years ago and the paint seems clean on the surface. I've wiped down the walls, but it doesn't seem to help. What is the yellow stuff? [more inside]
