Upgrade from W2K to XP

I want to upgrade my laptop from Windows 2000 to XP. How can I preserve my Outlook settings between the upgrade? I ask because I connect to an Exchange Server with settings on Outlook which have been tweaked heavily over time.

Also, will the XP install give me an option to preserve my previous system? In case everything goes pear-shaped, I'd like to be able to roll back to my previous state. If it goes right, can I delete all the data needed to roll-back after to optimise disk space?

Thanks in advance.

Can I delete subfolders in Win2k Pro?

I'm running my system under win2k Pro. In my OS folder are a bunch of subfolders with names like $NtUninstallKB810217$ Any reason not to delete them? I could really use the reclaimed drive-space (nb: I googled, and found links, but all want money to view the answer. How very un-askme!)

A "Task Manager" for Bandwidth (for Windows 2000)?

I'd like to know which applications on my computer are using how much of my internet connection's bandwidth. Something like Task Manager for bandwidth. Any recommendations for something free for Win2K that's easy to install, use, and uninstall? Or is there a built-in utility I'm missing?

How do I move from Windows 98 to Windows XP?

Updating Windows98 SE to Windows XP. (mi) Understand, I come from the Unix world, so I don't know alot of things about Windows that are second nature to most of you.

I have my old copy of Windows 98. I have a new update disk for Windows XP. I would be re-installing my old system then installing XP over the top of it, right?

Do I need to get all the patches and upgrades first (are they even available now?), or would those be anticipated by the upgrade disk already?

Apple computer accessing a Windows hard drive?

Can I access a Windows 2000 formatted hard drive in an external hard drive enclosure with an Apple computer? [m-to-the-i] My computer died, and I figured this was a good time to make the switch. Now, I have a 80gig hard drive that is full of data that needs to be accessed. I can either but a cheapie $300 barebones and put the drive in there and load samba in the apple, or I can put the drive in an enclosure and access it that way. I just don't know if that is possible.

Problem with Apache (Win2K) on a local network

Problem with Apache (Win2K) on a local network . . . I have an install of Apache that runs fine on my Windows 2000 machine. I've added an XP laptop and I want to keep the 2000 machine as my server but work from the XP machine. Trying to browse to the root IP of the 2000 machine gets me an Apache 403 error.

For convenience, I've set up a virtual domain called "tpc-dev", pointed it at the Web Root folder and made an entry on both machines' hosts files. This has gotten me no further, but at least provided a place to put an Allow From All, Allow From 192.168 -type statement which did me no good. But looks professional.

I'm working entirely in the httpd.conf file; there's nothing in .htaccess. Could this be a network user permissions issue? It doesn't seem like a router issue (D-Link wireless router + access point) since I can see Apache.

Shut Down!

I installed a new OS (mmyes, it was M$ W2k) on my computer on a new hard drive. The old system and the new OS now work next to each other, but I have a technical matter that I can't solve. On the old OS (W98), if I say "Shut down", it will also automatically shut down the power of the computer after it shuts down Windows.

The W2k OS doesn't do that, and while it's not a big issue, I have enough of the neurotic in me to want it to work on the W2k as well. Where and how do I make it do that?
