Where can I find volunteer opportunities in SF?

Looking for interesting volunteer opportunities in San Francisco I really want to start volunteering, but am having trouble finding opportunities that 1) fit into my schedule and 2) fit into my interests.

I work a full time, 9-5 job Monday through Friday. With the exception of Saturday afternoons, my weekend is pretty open. That is ideally when I would like to volunteer.

I also find that a lot of organizations have some sort of training program you have to go through before you can start "working."
I would rather find something I could just jump into right away.

I am looking for something related to one of the following:

1) Music or fine arts

2) Animals (especially dogs!)

3) Adult ESL learners ( I tutored adult ESL students in college, and really enjoyed it.)

OK, Internets. Do your magic.

Help me find a short-term volunteer opportunity

Can you steer me towards a short-term (40 hours) volunteer opportunity with kids in San Francisco during the next month? I know there are plenty of resources out there to find longer-term, ongoing volunteer opportunities but I'm looking for something very specific. I'd like to volunteer in San Francisco with kids - any age - for a week or so sometime during the next month. I can start on August 3 and need to wrap up by August 24.

Any Bay Area mefites that know of a camp or summer school situation that might welcome some additional help for a week or so? I'm interested in doing just about anything with an educational focus. Thanks.

Hmmmm. I might just join a club. Even if it would have me as a member.

May I pick your brain for a moment? Yeah, thanks. See, I'm thinking I want to join some clubs or groups or organizations in the Bay area to inspire myself as well as to meet more creative, vibrant, funny, smart, interesting people my age. Tell me, what does the Bay area offer that might really enrich my life here that I might not know about? I'm back to working at home right now which is way too solitary. My language classes have helped me to realize that it's definitely about time I get more deeply involved in the community here, that I should expand my horizons and meet more cool peers. Preferably active people who are youthful & energetic about life (living on the Peninsula, I'm currently surrounded by soccer moms who act like 30-40 is a hundred freaking years old, and I just can't allow myself to relate to that. Sorry. Nuh uh.).

If there are groups for people really into world travel, design or culture that would be cool too. Also wouldn't mind taking a digital photography class. Basically I'm open to all suggestions, including good places for fun events, workshops, high quality classes or lectures, music, writing courses, volunteer organizations... even quirky stuff is ok. I'm basically just open to hearing about anything interesting you've found that you've had good experiences with & enjoyed. Anything kickass stuff you can recommend? (No computer clubs please. I spend WAY too much time behind this damnable thing already.)

Big bonus points if there happen to be tall, dark, handsome, non-crazy, unattached & heterosexual men (with an attraction to me) present in said groups. ;)

Good Volunteer Opportunities in San Francisco?

Please help me find a good organization to volunteer at in San Francisco! Preferably one in the Mission District and that serves underprivileged children. I've just moved to San Francisco and I'd like to start volunteering weekly at a well-run NGO or community organization that works with under-privileged children. I live in the Mission District (18th and Potrero) and would prefer to volunteer somewhere close by. I speak Spanish, so a place that serves predominantely Spanish speaking kids wouldn't be a problem.

What I have in mind is volunteering once or twice a week for a few hours at a tutoring or after-school program, though I'm open to other kinds of organizations and activities.

Thanksgiving volunteer question

Thanksgiving volunteer question: I live in the SF Bay Area and have no plans for Thanksgiving (tomorrow). I'd like to go out and volunteer to help people get fed instead of sitting at home watching football feeling sorry for myself. Anyone got leads on where one would go to do such a thing in Berkeley, Oakland or SF?
