emergency help! I'm without plans tonight at the last minute and want to volunteer in wilmington, delaware area for thanksgiving today/tonight. i can't find any specific opportunities, have already called a few places, didn't find anything on-line. PLEASE if you know of a SPECIFIC place needing volunteers tonight (not just a suggestion to call a church or soup kitchen) let me know asap. thanks!

I am currently working as a volunteer at a nonprofit agency three days a week. They have offered to make an employee but even at minimum wage, they can only afford 16 hours (2 days) a week. They are trying to be careful to avoid unpaid overtime so they don't want me to work extra hours. Is there any reason why they can't hire me to work two days a week and then I volunteer to work a third provided that we have a written agreement that the third day is completely voluntary and not part of my employment?

I recently volunteered for a community project to make homemade Valentine's Day cards for local elderly residents. I'm enjoying making the cards, but I suddenly find my mind blank! I need to come up with some good sayings/sentiments/quotes to put in the cards. These will all be for people I've never met, so that knocks out a lot of the usual sayings. Since a good deal of these people do not have family around, I'd love it if I could say something that will make them smile. I just know you guys will have some great ideas! THANKS!

Legally, what would you call refusal to adhere to city/government by-laws to fingerprint or background check volunteer workers? I imagine it's a fairly serious crime. Location in Canada preferably, but US examples welcome. [more inside]
