Volume control on my computer is laggy and slow and crashy. To the point where it's unusable. This has happened on every Windows computer I have ever owned. Is my volume control program allergic to me or is this a common problem? [more inside]

I am looking for a Windows app that provides an onscreen visual cue when any sounds are played. It would be nice if the cue happened regardless of the status of the master mute. I'm having a tough time searching for this type of app without getting volume control widgets, etc. [more inside]

Is there something I can get for Win XP that can control the volume of each program individually? I'd like Windows Media Player to be loud (for those videos that have unexplained quiet sound) and Trillian and system beeps and the like to be barely audible. Is this possible?
