I just got a pair of these QCY QY8 Bluetooth earbuds. There is a volume control on the right earbud, but it seems to only control the volume of your music and ongoing phone calls. The 'operator' volume, however, is always set to the max--I was just listening to music when someone called, and it basically screamed the announcement into my ears. The startup announcement and jingle are also always maximum volume. I don't see anything about how to control this in the instruction manual (which I can't find online, unfortunately). Any tips?
I have a Mac Pro, and I currently have Volume X on a USB 3 drive which I use as a workspace. I'd like to move it to my Thunderbolt drive so I can use the USB 3 drive elsewhere. Can I do this without breaking path references on my SSD? What's the best way?
Is there a term (scientific or musical) for that thing where you turn up the volume on your headphones (or whatever) and suddenly you can hear something that you couldn't hear at all at the lower volume? Like, "Oh, there's bells in there. I had no idea."
Like in a standard thingamabob such as the DJ-s use, for example. There is usually a volume knob and a gain knob. There is an absolutely clear audible difference between turning up gain and turning up volume. They are not the same at all. But what exactly is happening in the amplifier when I use one or the other? What do each of these things actually do?
My laptop is being wacky. Without me touching the volume keys when typing, the volume keeps re-adjusting--up, off, down, whatever. Additionally, iTunes is opening up when I have not tried to open it. I can quit, force quit, restart, whatever. It just keeps happening. MacBook Pro mid-2012 running Yosemite 10.10.2. iTunes 184.108.40.206. I could update iTunes, but I am out of the country with limited bandwidth. Any ideas what is going on?
Right now, if I find a video I really like on youtube with subpar volume, I have to download it and play it via VLC. Kind of ruins the playlist experience. Are there plugins or extensions that will do the same thing, ie increase the level of the audio output?
Hi MeFi, My lights were left running on my Honda Civic 2008 and the battery drained. After a jump from AAA, the car audio hasn't been the same. To clarify.. it sounds much much louder. For example, I used to be able to turn it up to Level 30, right now if I go over Level 5 it sounds extremely loud and bass is very distorted. What could it be? Did battery jump somehow fry my speakers/receiver? Thanks for your help!

About half the time when I turn on the stereo the left channel speaker doesn't work. If I turn the balance all the way to the left on the receiver, and increase the volume sharply, the speaker comes on. Then I can lower the volume, adjust the balance, and everything works fine till I turn off the stereo. It's the same with all sound sources. [more inside]

So I was listening to the sound check for the upcoming U2 concert yesterday from my house, which is just over 2km from the stadium. I could tell that the sound was immensely loud at the source even though it wasn't rattling my windows or anything. How did I know it was a huge sound at a distance rather than coming from nearby? What auditory cues tell us this?
