Chronic post-nasal drip limiting my speaking voice

I have chronic post-nasal drip. It's not literally all the time, but whenever I stay up an hour or two too late, it turns on like a faucet and continues to pour down my throat for a week or more. I have it far more often than not. It coats my vocal cords and screws up my voice in a variety of ways, which sucks extra because I'm a standup comic. [more inside]

Thank Yeh-oo in Advance

With some American English-speaking, usually young female speakers, I sometimes perceive a subtle but distinct shift of ... tone, maybe (?), in the middle of the word "you" that makes it sound almost like "yeh-oo" instead of "yo͞o". My American English-speaking, mid-40's female partner neither pronounces the word this way nor does she hear it in others when I point it out. Am I hearing things, or is this "a thing"? What is it called? Is it a "glottal stop"? Why do some people pronounce it like that and others don't? [more inside]

How do I find songs that best showcase my voice?

I'm an amateur singer trying to look for songs that best showcase my voice. I'm not particularly trained in music (I was at a point in my youth but have since forgotten), so I have trouble identifying what it is about a song that makes it well-suited for my voice. Maybe the hivemind can help me figure it out/suggest some other songs that might work? [more inside]

Good resources or tips, or both, for learning sight-singing?

Help me identify this vocal sample?

I've got the track I hear in the background here (DJ W!ld - All About You), but I've not heard any remix with this vocal overlaid, I'm wondering what it is and where it's from and googling for the words doesn't help much. It starts at 9:30 (Soundcloud link will autoplay)

Singing lessons in Northern Virginia

Does anyone have recommendations for a voice teacher in the DC area, preferably Northern Virginia? I'm a 58-year old male lead singer in a band. The band does mostly rock and country, with bluegrass and Great American Songbook stuff thrown in for good measure. I'm interested in extending my baritone range (I don't have a head voice or falsetto at all) and increasing power and volume. A couple of years ago I bought Roger Love's Set Your Voice Free, and I practice the vocal exercises daily, but that's the extent of my formal practice.

Music for woodwinds/brass + voice only?

I'm looking for examples of musical traditions or performances centered around (i) the human voice, and (ii) an instrument (or instruments) played by blowing (flute, trumpet, pan pipes, whatever). It's okay if other instruments are involved too, but they have to be secondary to the breath + voice combination. The platonic ideal of what I am after would be a thriving folk tradition in which a single performer alternates between singing and playing a flute. [more inside]

Classical composers who sang instead of played instruments?

Are there well-known classical composers who aren't trained on a particular instrument? An acquaintance is a young singer who's interested in composition (mostly for voice), but in talking to him I get the sense that he feels a little inadequate compared to his fellow students who are accomplished on at least one instrument like piano or violin. Can you give me examples of classical composers whose work is respected but who weren't primarily instrumental players? Modern or otherwise. Thanks!

Why does my fellow commuter squeak?

Every morning on the bus to work there is a young woman who makes a stream of odd sounds - little squeaks, yips and moans. Every couple of minutes. I can't see if she is using her mouth (I usually sit further back in the bus than her) but they sound to me like she makes the sounds without opening her mouth. I have been tempted to ask her, but I think it would be very rude and probably embarrass her. So, can anyone please tell me - why does she squeak? (Or at least proffer a plausible guess).
