So, I am in the market for a new laptop and am looking at all kinds of options. I'd like something that's going to allow me to continue to support my Windows clients, and one that's also going to allow me to virtualize other operating systems. I am considering many options, including Macs. I am curious: For those of you who have a 15" Macbook Unibody that run virtual guest O/S via VMWare Fusion, how does it perform? How much RAM did you need? How is the Mac performance when running a virtual O/S? How does the short 900 pixel resolution affect your ability to run Windows apps? What about Ubuntu or Fedora with VMWare Fusion? What about Vista or even Windows 7? Any and all stories are welcome, including stories about the last generation MacBooks.

XP Pro x64 Server + VMware Server + XP Pro x64 --- So my boss has this idea of running VMware Server on our server and backing up the VMware image nightly. His thought here, is that if the server craps out, all we have to do is re-install, copy over the VMware image and we are back in business.

Trying to set up a development environment on my Macbook (running latest Leopard). I have VMware fusion running Debian etch, set up perfectly with the requisite LAMP stack. The problem is, I'd like to have Debian's /var/www/ available to OSX for actual editing. I've tried setting up NFS, but to no avail (though I'm admittedly novice at this sysadmin stuff).

I'm looking at purchasing a MacBook Pro for my job at a non-profit. I do web design and IT (as well as Accounting, which is what I'll need to keep running Windows XP for, and Outlook for the Exchange server). I'll install Bootcamp for XP, but much of the time, I will not want to reboot into XP. Would Parallels or VMware Fusion to a better job of meeting my needs? Does either one do a better job of running off the Bootcamp partition?

I'm looking to build a Virtual Machine friendly PC box. I'm hoping to spend no more then $600 on it to start (that will not include a moniter; I don't need one), but the key is to have it be quite expandable in the future (say 1 to 1.5 years). I don't need a lot of starting RAM, just enough to run one or two low demand VMs (one with XP on it). Any good suggestions for what I should look to buy (full specs please)? I assume I should be looking into the newer chips, right? Thank you!

Cleanse, Fold, Emulate: If you found yourself needing to run Windows 95 and
only Windows 95 to play an old game (neither WINE nor Win2k under VMWare work - it has to be Win95), would you run Win95 under bochs or VMWare? VMWare is certainly a lot more straightforward, but it looks like bochs might give you more control over the emulated machine.

Are any flavors of Linux currently more adept at exploiting the AMD64 chip than others? I know that Gentoo has a robust package available. Last I check with Debian, they had one version better suited for the Intel, but were working on AMD-specific one. To compound my problem, I hope to add VMWare once it's up and running (to run WindowsXP as a virtual 32-bit OS).
