Chicago at the end of September

I'll be visiting Chicago from 9-24 through 9-30. I'm looking for recommendations on where to stay, hopefully near rail, places to eat, and suggestions on things to do besides what's covered in CityPass. Thanks.

I'm Taking My Teen Boy to London; What to Do?

Like it says on the box. I'm taking my youngest kid to London for a week in August, we're staying by Gloucester Road tube. Through a miracle of connections, I was able to score us tickets to see Liverpool vs. Stoke but other than that and a show at the Globe, we have no plans. [more inside]

At the end of the week I'll be staying overnight at the home of someone who is clearly exhibiting some early dementia symptoms. Detroit in small bites

In a week, I'll be heading to Detroit with a few high schoolers as part of my denomination's Youth Gathering. With over 30,000 Lutherans heading to town, my people will be everywhere. However most of our events start after 12 noon, which will leave me and the youth with mornings to kill. What in Downtown Detroit should we see? Where should we eat? What shouldn't two 16 year old guys miss?

My partner and I are considering a move to Seattle from NYC and taking a brief trip there (arriving Saturday and leaving Tuesday) to discern how we'd like it. I've only been to Seattle once, years ago for just a few days. I'm rather attached to New York living, but want to keep an open mind. How can I turn my unstable friend who wants to visit me down? [Redux]

So, good news and bad news about my codependent conundrum. The good news is that I've grown a backbone and I'm now willing to tell my mentally ill friend "no" about coming to visit right now. The bad news is that I've been waffling for so long, and at such a cost to his mental health, that things have gotten more complicated. I want to know: am I morally obligated to let him come at this point, and if not, what kind of excuse/explanaton can I use to let him down easy? (Really long.) [more inside]
