What does a pigeon look like?

I got curious about this after reading a blog article on pigeons and face recognition. What colors does a pigeon see in other pigeons? I see pigeons with white, black, and grey bands and patches, sometimes with iridescence in the neck. The wikipedia entry for bird vision says they have pentachromatic vision. [more inside]

How old were you when you got bifocals?

1. How old were you when you got bifocal lenses? 2. How difficult was it to adjust to them, particularly if you got contact lenses? 3. How many different pairs or combinations of lenses did you have to try before finding something that worked? 4. Are there new options in recent years that a near-sighted person with worsening close-up vision should know about? Thanks for helping me go to my eye doctor with good questions ready.

Seeking a poem about blurry vision

I am looking for a poem I read once online about an artist (Matisse? Gaugin?) who confronts his eye doctor about not wanting to wear eyeglasses. In the poem, the artist talks about how his blurry vision allows him to experience the world as connected. It's a really beautiful poem, but I can't find it through all of the eyeglasses spam on Google. Can anyone point me to the poem?

Art that shows visual effects of looking from close distances?

If you lay your forehead on the palm of your hand and look down at your forearm, you get a distorted view of the connection between wrist and forearm, as well as a sort of "ghost" forearm silhouette at the margins. Do pinhole glasses work?

I found this pinhole glasses sold at the local pharmacy, and feel intrigued by its claim to help me see better and improve my vision overtime (I'm short-sighted). My skeptic alarm rang with warnings (if it's too good to be true, it usually is, etc.), but a quick google-fu turned up nothing substantial to refute such claims. So, does anybody have any experience or anecdotes to share in regards of such product ?
