The last two times I got a new prescription the first try was way off. Could this be due to the eye drops? Or is it just communications?

I walked away from my last visit to the optometrist with a prescription for bifocals. All for the low low price of $20. The bruises on my ego were free.

I am very nearsighted, and have an astigmatism in both eyes. I checked out LASIK 10 years ago, and was told that it hadn't developed enough to make it safe/effective for a person with my conditions. Has the state of the art improved with regard to laser correction of severe nearsightedness with astigmatism? Are there new techniques that could work better than LASIK?

Four years ago the axis number for my left eye (I have astigmatism) was 52º, now it's 48º. Is this normal? I thought those numbers were supposed to always go up with age.

1. How old were you when you got bifocal lenses? 2. How difficult was it to adjust to them, particularly if you got contact lenses? 3. How many different pairs or combinations of lenses did you have to try before finding something that worked? 4. Are there new options in recent years that a near-sighted person with worsening close-up vision should know about? Thanks for helping me go to my eye doctor with good questions ready.

Often, when I view repeating high-contrast patterns in blinds, clothes, floors, escalators, or other objects I find them to be disconcerting verging on painful. You aren't my doctor, but does this sound familiar at all? Googling has turned up nothing useful.

Should I be worried about this? I went to the doctor this morning to get checked out for cold/flu symptoms; I didn't think it was serious -- I just wanted to check that I didn't have H1N1, but the doctor told me that the treatment I'd been getting for prostatitis was "highly unusual for someone in their 20s", and he said I should immediately stop taking the antibiotic I'm on (Septra/Bactrim) because I might be having an allergic reaction to it, or possibly an autoimmune reaction.

I once saw/heard something on horses that were used underground in (coal?) mines... the reference was short and was phrased as something like this "... it's like those horses used in the (coal?) mines, they are underground in the dark for so long (years?) that when they are brought up from the mines and get to see far away into the horizon they die of shock."

Should I get glasses? My eyes have been bothering me as of late -- light sensitivity, eyelid flutters -- so I went to an optometrist and got checked out. I am very slightly nearsighted, with a slight astigmatism -- should I drop the cash for glasses?
