I've worn contacts for over 30 years now but have recently considered getting Lasik. I have heavy astigmatism and have been wearing toric lenses, which work most of the time but still tend to drift making my vision poor at any distance. I signed up for a Lasik seminar, attended and was interested in continuing. I stopped wearing my contacts over two weeks before my preop exam but apparently my eyes still haven't settled to a consistent shape because they couldn't get consistent results when measuring them. I have another exam scheduled in two weeks but I'm beginning to wonder if it's even worth it. Should I just accept defeat or go back and try again?
The last two times I got a new prescription the first try was way off. Could this be due to the eye drops? Or is it just communications? [more inside]
I am very nearsighted, and have an astigmatism in both eyes. I checked out LASIK 10 years ago, and was told that it hadn't developed enough to make it safe/effective for a person with my conditions. Has the state of the art improved with regard to laser correction of severe nearsightedness with astigmatism? Are there new techniques that could work better than LASIK? [more inside]
Why are there two different methods (positive and negative) for recording astigmatism? [more inside]
Are there ways I can improve my vision? Or at least stop it from deteriorating? [more inside]
For the past 4 months, I've been wearing toric contact lenses for my newly-developed astigmatism. My vision now slips out of focus quite often, and I find myself blinking and rubbing quite a bit to get my vision to focus - sometimes to no avail. Is this abnormal, or is this just the deal I get for being astigmatic and wanting to wear contact lens? [more inside]
