I got a Gear VR headset as a gift and it's amazing. Most of the "Top 10" lists out there reviewing content are geared more toward gamers. What I've enjoyed the most so far are the two Cirque du Soleil performances and some of the static, virtual art installations, and just looking for other recommendations that are similar in nature and quality. (The fact that Oculus doesn't offer capability to search their offerings makes it extra hard to find good content.) [more inside]
I put together a proposed build for a white box ESXi 6.0 host. The last time I did something like this, I found out (too late) that the on-board SATA controller was incompatible with ESXi. So I’d like someone to verify that I’m not doing something stupid this time. [more inside]

I have been tasked to "Put Jane and John on our conference room screen and put all of us on their laptop screens" to turn a regular teleconference meeting into a videoconference meeting. The problem is not Jane or John: They are in quiet remote offices with laptops and Skype accounts (or any other videoconferencing accounts you may suggest). The problem is us: Thirty colleagues, backs pressed against the walls, in a long, narrow, noisy conference room built for twenty, with no room to place cameras that will capture more than a few of us. I am looking for a weekend and weekday (after 6pm) virtual receptionist service that could take a few calls for a small company. I have done a few searches but all seem to provide their services on weekdays. Know of one you would recommend?
Hi, I struggle with chronic illness and disability and have one very part-time job that I split my time between attending in person and working from home. I need to bring in some more money, however, though I'm not expecting anything grand income wise. Ideally I'm looking for jobs that have enough work available that you can sign in or pick up an hour or two or three of work without the obligation of sticking to meeting a set schedule each week. It's hard because my illness is so unpredictable. Any ideas would be appreciated. [more inside]
Do you have a favorite tip for doing a fantastic job in a phone interview (a conference call with a selection panel of four people)? This is the final step for a contract gig for which I'm one of several finalists. Looking for extra input because I really care about getting this one if I can! [more inside]
I want to put up a wordpress site for a virtual gallery of some of my photos. I'd really like to have something that looks clean & elegant enough to send out to potential clients/magazines. ie. Not so much something that signals, "family summer trip... woohoo" but really something that signals "artist-doing-arty-things." (What I am putting on this wordpress site will be a specific photo story though, and not all of my work-- ie. this site will have a really narrow focus). I've looked at woothemes, and really didn't see anything that had the look I am striving for. (It's that classic problem: I don't know what I want, but I'll know it when I see it.") Can the hive mind point me to other places (like WooThemes) where I can find and buy beautiful wordpress themes (tight budget alert!) and/or specific themes-for-sale that would be great for an aspiring photographer with a story to tell. Thanks!

I tried to install linux on a win8 laptop and failed although I tried everything to disable UEFI and security boot options in Bios. So I think there is no solution to install Linux on certain win8 Laptops. But someone told me of course I can install Linux on any win8 laptops by using virtualbox. So I'm wondering why can it be done? How exactly is virtualbox/virtual machine works for this issue? can anybody explain this to me in a easy to understand way? Thanks very much.

We are trying out a virtual assistant service which uses remote human personal assistants based in the US that are communicated with through email and an app. The model is that you buy a month's package of requests that you can make (e.g. 15 task requests, with each task not meant to take more than 20 minutes). It can be a bit difficult to think up tasks for the assistants to do, especially if you only want to make requests for tasks that will save you a big amount of time (rather than tasks - make a restaurant booking etc.- which you could do yourself in just a little more time than it takes to make a request). What are your tips for using this kind of service most effectively? What kinds of task requests are most "bang for your buck" , bearing in mind the limit of a standard month's package of 15 tasks? Thanks!
After years of academia & the endemic rootlessness that comes with it, I have finally gotten myself a Permanent Job (yay!!) which means, among many things, that I can finally consolidate my book diaspora into one place. I've a huge number of books which are both physical and digital. Here's the problem: I want my library space to reflect both. Any suggestions? Details below. [more inside]

Longshotfilter: I wanted to know what was the name of the show back in the 90's, that featured a final episode (or I think it was) based around this computer web system with a female voice. She was the mainscreen representing what we now know as the WWW and this came pretty much before the web went completely commercial. She instructed some teen to disconnect her because the human population was dying and there were only two left. Does anyone remember?
I just finished reading Pat Cadigan's Tea From An Empty Cup which is one of the texts of my Lit and Tech Hons course. I started thinking about why the author refers to her world as AR (Artificial Reality) as opposed to VR (Virtual Reality), and that raised all kinds of questions about identity, real, fake and simulacra. So I'm curious to know what people see as the difference (if any) between VR and AR.
