Around the time that the Supreme Court decided Loving v. Virginia, did any churches lose their tax exempt status either due to (A) political activities related to the fight over interracial marriage or (B) due to the refusal to conduct such marriages for its members?

I was given some photographs of old relatives that were found in a box in my great-grandfather's house after he passed away. All but one photo is someone I can identify. I have no information on that one photo, which is of an old woman standing on a path in front of a farmhouse. I'd like to at least get an idea of the era so I can begin narrowing down the identify of the woman.

I have been obsessed with
this building in Alexandria, Virginia for years. I want to know more about it - who designed it, when it was built, past tenants, and so forth. Should there be public records available somewhere and if so, where can I find them?

Drivers of NoVA: Starting from the intersection of 123/Ox Rd. and 286/Fairfax County Parkway, picking a friend up from DCA/National Airport, flight arriving at 7am this Wednesday. Should I drive the whole way, stop at Franconia-Springfield and take the metro, or some other plan C? What will traffic, parking at F-S, and metro crowding be like and how early should I leave? What effect will the holiday have?

Looking for a rustic wedding venue in the DC/Virginia/MD (and potentially WV) region where the soon-to-be Mrs. Oneironaut and I can take over for the whole weekend, roast whole lambs, have a county fair atmosphere, and have the music and dancing go all night. We want to be able to control the space, have a house and potentially a few cabins available, and be within 30 minutes of a town with hotels. Any leads appreciated! And, this question is
similar to this one, but we're anticipating more like 150 people, and don't need to be within an hour of the airport.

This newspaper article is about me. Basically, I have I PTSD and struggle with depression. I am looking for a good therapist in Richmond, Virginia. I've tried a number of them, but have never found a good match. It occurs to me that someone here might know someone, so I thought I'd ask. I found
one recommendation from 2009, but would like to find more. Thanks in advance...

Sisters and I want to meet somewhere in the middle, between Connecticut and eastern Tennessee. We would like something that is a reasonable drive from each state. We are looking for a quaint type town, maybe a bed and breakfast, walking to restaurants and browsing antique stores? Not spending too much money would be nice. Close to the 81. Was thinking about northeastern VA-ish. We will be going end of July for 2 nights.

What to do in Richmond VA? I'm in town next week and I just found out that the Flying Squirrels' opening day is still two weeks away---so no baseball for me--any recommendations for fun in the general Richmond area? I have a car at my disposal and would have loved to see a minor league baseball game. Looking for interesting things to see [or eat] during the weekdays. Preferably no overnight trips. thanks!

DC-area-history-filter! I'm about to move back to the US, where I will be either in DC or North Virginia (working in Ashburn, specifically). I like having a sense of the history that contributed to the physical environment around me. Why is this town here, who built what building, why, and what does the allegory in the decoration mean. Things like that. What books, articles, or whatever should I read to understand these qualities about my upcoming home?

My girlfriend moved to Northern Virginia (from DC) to attend grad school at George Mason University. She paid out-of-state rates her first two semesters, then after she had lived in the Commonwealth for a year, applied for in-state status - and was denied, because the school judged that she moved to VA specifically for in-state tuition benefits. What now?

I used to live in Virginia and now live in the UK. When I was in VA I was a state employee and paid into the Virginia Retirement System. I've recently been contacted by the VRS and it turns out I can get a refund on all my contributions. Yay! But - the form I have to fill in to authorise the refund is required to be acknowledged by a "VA notary public or other court official authorised to take acknowledgements".
Does anyone know if there's a Virginia notary public in the UK? Or can you get these things done remotely - which seems to go against the idea of a notary public...

Simple (I hope!) tax question: my only income in Virginia for 2011 was unemployment benefits (~$9k). I now live in CA. Will I need to file a Virginia income tax return? I believe that in VA unemployment benefits are not taxed at the state level... so I shouldn't need to file, no? Thanks!

In celebration of our 20th anniversary on Friday, Mrs COD and myself will be leaving the teenagers at home while we spend the weekend at a B&B in Kilmarnock VA. We plan to take the ferry over to Tangier Island on Saturday. Is anybody familiar enough with Kilmarnock to recommend restaurants for dinner, or which of the options on Tangier will deliver the best lunch? I know it's not a big town, that was the point. This is a quiet getaway and eat good seafood kind of weekend. Neither of us are up for the summer crowds of VA Beach or DC. Thanks!

I'd like to live and work in D.C. and commute to a certain suburban Virginia school to finish my Bachelor's degree starting this coming Fall term.
