I'm a writer. I don't have a steady job and things are looking a little grim. Yet I recently hit the viral jackpot with an article linked on the blue and BoingBoing and all over the place, and it's sprinting toward 40,000 hits since I posted it Tuesday night. Much of it was timing; it was a way to tie up some surprising (to me) feelings I had about Carrie Fisher. Nevertheless, anybody know how you're supposed to use these things for work/job purposes? I'm interested in reading opinion-heavy, probably political, Facebook posts that went viral. Stuff like this and also this and this. [more inside]
There is a YouTube video, several years old, that features an earnest-seeming commercial about individuals accepting some sort of cult religion. As the video went on, the material got more and more ridiculous. I feel like the fake cult starts with a K. The artist who put it together had 2 or 3 videos in the series. I know it was mentioned on MeFi before. Any help?
This video on FB of a little (assumed Japanese) girl singing karaoke is one of the funniest things I have seen on the net for a while. Please help me find the original posting (YouTube or Japanese equivalent?) [more inside]
I had a taste of Internet-famous (if only to people who knew me) when both Snoop Dogg and Cheech and Chong reposted a Photoshop I did of a friend. I find I want more! What do you suggest I do with the Photoshops I make every once in a while to try to get them a broader audience?
A friend of mine is starting a research project on dance videos (which certainly doesn't mean just ones created by professionals - so e.g. Saudi penguin dances are just as interesting as Gangnam Style) that have gone viral on Youtube or other online platforms. Many examples may comprise of both professional and amateur creation e.g. Happy . The key thing is that dance is the *main* reason for the viral spread. What are the most interesting and influential (or otherwise noteworthy!) examples of this in your experience? Thanks for your suggestions!!
I saw some funny 2 minute video basically a fake advertisement for some presumably made up company (something like rockman automatronics). The guy toured a room talking about how great the products were, but using super scientific sounding (most of probably made up) words, like "panfandeled ding alarm", and that's what made it funny, because you couldn't understand almost anything he said. At the end it said something like "you can find our rockman automatronics wherever fine electronics are sold" or something like that. Bonus points if you can source who made the funny video and why
Last week I saw an ad for what appeared to be a search engine in the London Evening Standard. I presumed it was viral marketing as the ad was pretty opaque - but the website doesn't seem to be advertising anything or indeed make sense. What's going on? [more inside]

I'm trying to track down a viral fashion video that featured a model in a meadow of flowers at golden hour, with a wind machine following her gestures, flattening the grass and flowers. I can't remember what it was advertising — maybe perfume?
Remember the Diet Coke and Mentos video? I'm looking for similar examples of internet memes that members of the public could, in theory, learn to replicate at home. Stuff like cup stacking; make-up tutorials; Double Dream Hands; or opening a beer with your arm. It mustn't be anything that requires special powers (eg double-jointedness) or special props - just household objects. Suggestions?
I'm trying to find a short story I read a few years ago about a 'viral' video tape. The unique property of the story was that it was written as a collection of notes and emails between the characters. [more inside]

There was a series of viral videos of a somewhat rotund boy playing spin the bottle and possibly doing other activities with his toys and possibly some other objects. The kid was actually an adult comedian. I can't for the life of me remember what these were called and can't find them anywhere. I think they were before Youtube. What was the name of the series and where could I find them again?
