help me get back into console gaming!

Identifying a 90s PC game

Trying to identify a PC game I played while I was young. I want to say it was a point and click adventure game with darkish themes. It was 2D, not isometric, and I seem to remember there being a level/levels in a silhouetted art style, and *maybe* claymation. (It's not neverhood.) [more inside]

Can I, too, kill the giant and burrow through his eye?

So, I'm reading Ender's Game to my son (per his request), agreeing with him how cool it might be to play the video game where he kills the giant, and naturally begin to wonder if anyone has made a playable version. I will assume that there exists a game out there which includes a stage with the giant scene in it. Has anyone taken a whack at making the entire game as we read about it in the book? Are there other examples of games that were originally suggested in books, now available to play?

Pow! Freowwww! Games to test out my new rig with?

I got a new PC a few months ago. I like to think that it's a good build, but I never play any games on it anyway besides minecraft because I already had an Xbox and there's nothing coming out until christmas. What are some games/demos I can get (for free) that I can try on it to really get a sense of how good of a gaming rig it is - and if I should start buying PC games, or stick to xbox games? Educational Videogames for Grownups

Educational videogames tend to be aimed at children and/or not much fun to play (and/or both). "Typing of the Dead" is a great exception. What video game music could I arrange for one to three wind instruments?

I play clarinet in an orchestra that exclusively plays video game music, and there's an opportunity to a solo or small ensemble piece in the next concert if you can come up with your own music. Although I took two semesters of music theory, I don't think I'd be able to arrange anything involving piano- I'm looking for something that could be done with one to three wind instruments. Any ideas?

Best Console Video Games Enjoyable in One Hour

What are the best recent console video games that can be enjoyed in an hour or less? I'll be at PAX East this weekend, and since I don't own a console newer than a Gamecube, I'd like to spend some time at the Console Freeplay. They have a library of dozens of modern consoles and thousands of games that you can borrow for an hour at a time. Lots of the big games require at least a few hours to get anywhere in the story. What doesn't? What are the best casual or semi-casual games from this generation that I can enjoy in an hour? [more inside]

80s CGA Cat Breeding game?

There's this quasi-educatainment game that I had in the 80s. It was CGA graphics, on MS-DOS... The idea was breeding cats with dominant and recessive genes. The only cat game I can seem to find online is Alley Cat, but that's nothing like it. This game is a grid of something like 4 cats across, and 2 down. I don't remember what the exact point of the game was.

Help me ID this b-movie from early 80's

Cheesy, early 80's flick set either in the present or near future where punks (outrageous makeup and outfits) played some sort of videogame tournament on platforms, in a darkly lit arcade w/ huge joysticks sticking upward from the floor. It wasn't a straight comedy as I think there was dire consequences for losing. Death or something. I think I remember somebody losing and trying to escape their fate by running away into a nearby room w/ a girl while the crowd freaked out. I can't remember a single actor from the film but I think I might have seen it on USA's "Night Flight". I know I don't have much to go on but would love any/all help to figure this out. I've searched and searched but come up empty. Thank you!
