So I know about computers and I know about software. I don't know how they go together for games and wondering if there's an easy way to tell if my computer can run certain games.

Looking for a mid-90s PC puzzle game based on a cube. Holo or Light or something -- New age/tribal music... I don't remember exactly how it worked, but you try to get the marked side of the cube to land face down on a specific square on a grid (I think the location kept moving, though I'm not sure). Anyways, it might have come with my old IBM Pentium as a prepackaged thing. Any ideas?

Beautiful, open world platformers for the pre-school set? Does such a thing exist? Also open to general video game recommendations for the 5-7 age range.

I want some computer games that have high replayability, are relatively cheap (0-20$ CAD/USD), NOT need a CD to play, and most importantly, take up as
little hard-drive space and processor power as possible. Possible examples including good pieces of IF (especially mystery, who-killed-X ones), Fallout 2, Rogue-likes, games of the lightweight Boomshine/Peggle/Bejweled group, any RTS or turn-based strategy games, and anything by Nifflas. I'd love blogs that recommend good games, too. Any recommendations?

If Valve's

EsotericMacSoftwareFilter: My senior year of college (1990-1991), I played a Mac-only role-playing game, the name of which escapes me. The game itself wasn't that good, but I
loved the character creation system. You chose your mother and father's professions and that determined your base stats. Then you described how you spent your time in four-year blocks (25% study, 25% play, 50% womanizing, or whatever). These blocks further modified your character's scores. Over the years, I've conducted numerous web searches for this game, but for the life of me I can't find anything on it. Does anyone know which game this was? Does anyone know where I could buy (or download) a copy for my gathering-dust Mac SE?

One for the MeFi Gamer Corps: Are there any decent techniques for staying focused on a particular game? I find that when I pick up a new title I play it like mad for a week and then, finished or not, my attention invariably drifts to something else. What do you do when you want to make sure you see a game to its completion?
