I recently helped a friend gut a PC and put a bunch of new parts in it. I consider myself no slouch to these things as I've been tinkering with computers for almost 20 years, and majored in Computer Science to boot!
However, I could not for the life of me get both of these video cards to work, non-SLI, such that my friend could run two monitors off one card, and use the third as a dedicated physix card while also giving output to a 3rd monitor (a tv). 750w power supply.
Help!

A buddy of mine has been having some utterly bizarre issues with his upgraded build: Gaming consistently causes his video card to crash. This problem is not present in any other use case—other GPU-intensive tasks such as BTC mining does not trigger instability. Isolating and stress-testing individual components fails to identify the culprit. Card itself continues to run fine in the old motherboard/CPU setup. Rolling back drivers, undervolting, etc. makes no difference. Help?

I have an older Gateway PC acting as my media center/file server. I have it hooked up to a 42" 720p Samsung Plasma TV via VGA from the on-board connection on the PC. As such, the resolution is not very good: 1024x768 and the picture doesn't really fit on the screen. Can you recommend a cheap video card (under $50) that will let me connect via HDMI and show things at a decent resolution without stretching or cropping the picture? No gaming, just playing video files.

My livingroom media computer onboard video can only reach 1024x768, and the mobo has ONLY has PCI slots. So I need a PCI video card. It will be used mainly for playing / streaming video to a 1920x1200 HDTV, and perhaps occasionally for stuff like Nintendo64 emulation.
What specs will be the most important to ensure no choppiness or other problems when playing videos full screen? Is DirectX 10 or above important? Keeping in mind this must be PCI, am I doomed to choppy videos no matter how fast the card processor or how much memory it has?

We can't boot into Windows XP, except in VGA mode, without the screen going black after the Windows XP "loading bar screen"; we can still hear everything, though. This is on an Intel iMac running Boot Camp, and the Mac side (Leopard) works fine, which leads me to believe this isn't a problem with hardware.

Up in ur antique pc's optimizin ur network. I, a previously porn-surfing net monkey whose "kit" was a Dell Inspiron 5100 laptop (a retard's computer if there ever was one), have through recent endowments of hardware and employment opportunities, become the proud new owner of a fleet of slightly antiquated electronics that will need to be strung together and (probably) modified and moved if I'm not going to go insane tranferring massive volumes of data from one to another. This isn't so much a tech question as a planning one - what would you do with all this stuff? How can I get the best use out of it?
