I need to replace the video track of an MP4 with a single image in one case and with a series of transitioning images in another case. In both cases I wish to leave the audio track intact. I have tried Virtual-Dub and Windows Movie Maker (the downloadable version does not allow editing of the video/audio separately). Any suggestions for which software to use. I thought it would be straightforward, it hasn't been.

Last week, I shared the music video That's What's Up, by Edward Sharpe and the Magnetic Zeros, with my 15 year old and she fell in love with it. This week, daughter was assigned a project in her video production class to create an advertisement for the Sadie Hawkins dance at her high school. Inspired by the ES video, she's decided to recruit some youngsters from the on-campus preschool (where she is a volunteer) and film a short music video depicting a little girl asking a little boy to dance. I would like to know what options are available to me to enhance (or indeed the opposite) video streams - What I'd specifically like to do is download specific youtube footage (personal use) and render it with a jumpy black and white Pathe film-like quality. What would be the best approach to achieve this? - And please take into account that I have no Apple products to hand and very limited experience in manipulating the moving picture.

I'm looking for examples of visual timelines in movies, video games, or fiction. Scenes where a span of time is represented metaphorically, preferably as a physical object, diagram, or action. A good example is this scene from Me and You and Everyone We Know in which two characters use a street as a visual metaphor for their potential relationship. [more inside]

How can I save the LA Times' time-lapse video of space shuttle Endeavour's journey across LA for posterity (on my own computer)? It's really beautiful, but I'm afraid they'll take it off the LA Times website at some point. I'd like to save it for personal viewing later. I don't know much about these sorts of things (flask, etc.). I have an older Mac and no video capture card. Is this even possible? (Nevermind whether it's legal). Thanks all! Answer in the hypothetical if you prefer. ;-) Awesome shuttle video

We're using iPads for users to post videos directly to our Wordpress site through the official Wordpress app. The videos are being recorded on the iPads, and posted through the app's media upload feature. Using a laptop running Ubuntu Linux 12.04, I want to record three things at once: 1) video of my desktop, 2) video from a USB webcam, 3) audio from a USB microphone. Ideally I would like some setup which simultaneously starts all three recordings, and keeps them in sync, so that it will not be too painfully difficult to mix them later -- my eventual aim is to make a kind of "picture-in-picture" screencast. Is this feasible, and if it is, what's the best approach? (Free is nice, but if I can make this process smoother by paying less than a thousand dollars, I will happily pay.)

[Adobe Premiere filter] I have a screencast of a Powerpoint presentation and a webcam video of myself explaining the subject. Using Premiere Pro, I have combined both so that the webcam feed appears as a picture-in-picture in a corner while the presentation runs. However, despite everything looking fine on preview, when I attempt to export the file, the Powerpoint part plays about 10X faster than it should. Help? [more inside]
