There's this vine I saw a few weeks ago. By way of summary: [more inside]
I've recently really enjoyed Jordan Peterson's psychology lectures on youtube and I'd like to find more like them. Other video lectures I've enjoyed have been Shelly Kagan's Death, and Michael Sandel's Justice. Please tell me of others so I can watch them. [more inside]
I'm trying to find a YouTube video of two African-American boys (brothers, I think) who do a song and dance routine on a TV show from the 60s. [more inside]
I have an option to buy a used Canon 60D for about $500 CAN, no lenses included. I also see on BH Photo the option to buy the Canon 70D refurbished for about $800 USD. I want a good quality camera to film sit-down videos and sometimes vlogs. Can I get away with using the 60D and will it be good quality? [more inside]
Looking for a short video tinged with the fantastic I saw within the past year. Details within. [more inside]
I was interviewed by two television stations who later broadcast part of the interview. Both sent me a link to the story. The (formally) easy problem I have is to download the linked broadcast to my computer and eventually to a DVD archive. [more inside]
Hi MeFi, I have a PC I bought in 2012 and it has served me well for past years, however, it skips/lags when it comes to 1080p/4k video. I am looking to upgrade to a better card but unsure what factors I have to consider before upgrading. I mostly do video editing + motion media. The machine is as follows: Windows 7 Home Premium (64 bit) CPU: AMD FX-8150 (Zambezi 32nm Technology) Motherboard: Gigabyte 2AC8 Graphics Card: AMD Radeon HD 7570 2gb RAM: 16gb Is there a site that will let me figure out which GFX card(s) my machine is upgradable to? Thanks in advance!
I'm wondering if there's a service that provides an easy way to collect video messages. I'd imagine it working like this: I send some people a link to www.vidmsg.com/messagesforme and then they click "record" to record from their webcams. Then I can log in and play all the videos. Does something like that exist?
Do you know of a documentary on college students' lives? I'm really interested in the transition from adolescence to adulthood as well as what students learn at the college level. [more inside]
I remember a live video art installation (or a concept?) about setting up large video screens in public spaces, with cameras, linked to video screens w/cameras in other cities (even international) where the general public would wander by and see the equivalent general public wandering by in the other location. A kind of public park "skype" that's always on & linked to another location. I'm looking for info about such projects, and my google-fu is failing me.
Yesterday I recorded a man being arrested in NYC. What do I do now? [more inside]
When watching YouTube I often can't help but feel that I'm the only person in the world who doesn't use video editing software. I often rip and encode videos but I've yet to delve into the world of video editing. Mostly I want to remove 'mistakes' and extraneous stuff from videos of myself speaking. My requirement are that the apps are Windows-compatible. Freeware and payware apps are welcome. It's preferable that the apps are light on resources and noob-friendly, but these aren't requirements.
I do a lot of online video conferencing from a home office. I’m looking for desktop light fixtures that create a video image that makes me appear to be a good guy, as opposed to someone you want to avoid at all costs. The lighting is good during daytime hours, but at night I look creepy. I need to find lights that provide even, gentle, and warm illumination. [more inside]
What device or electronic setup would enable an elderly, non-tech-savvy person to straightforwardly view photos and videos with a minimum of fuss? Difficulty: no wifi, no 4G, no DVD player, no ongoing tech-support access, nursing-home setting with mild theft issues. [more inside]
Where can I find excellent movie discussion, analysis, reviews, dissection, etc by women? I feel like I have a stable of great film-related youtubers, writers, and podcasters that I enjoy, but they are largely male -- I'd love to discover more current work from women in this area. Thank you!
Trying to find a song based on what I remember on the music video. Was sung by a woman, kind of melancholy sounding. Most notable part of the music video was a woman riding a horse and she had dramatically long hair that floated through the sky. [more inside]
I want to record about ten seconds from this video on the web for personal use, and I don't want to buy software to do it. [more inside]
I want to start a few seconds video recording prompted by a gun blast. Plan is to attach a USB camera to a spotting scope and have my Mac start recording a few seconds of video the moment a shot is fired. The start and stop of the Video recording can be done with Automator ad/or Apple script. I am looking for an app or hardware solution to prompt the recording. It could be an application that starts a script once a sound exceeds a certain level. Perhaps even better a motion sensor that will sense the shock in the rifle stock. Thanks for your help. Rogier
I saw this funny and cool YouTube video with two musicians playing on one double-neck guitar. Unfortunately I don't have the link anymore and I've forgotten the names of the musicians. [more inside]
Hi all, I need to compile a file (and DVD) with bits of various youtube clips. Details within. [more inside]

My 2.5 year old toddler is going to be flying for the first time since she was a baby next week. We've been talking to her about it a bit, but I'd love to show her a video that would prepare her for the experience (security, boarding, taking off, landing, etc). I've found a few videos that show the process, but nothing really geared for toddlers.
The organization for which I work has one zillion (well, OK, maybe 40,000) videos in the Real media format. I did not create this scenario, I am only dealing with it. The videos reside on a single server, and are in multiple nested directories. I want/need to convert them to a more neutral format (I'm thinking mp4), using as little manual intervention as possible . [more inside]
Looking for recommendations for a video download extension for Firefox that won't a) inject ads into the stream, or b) track every site I visit. [more inside]
My new Sony flatscreen TV seems to have developed the superpower to show movies at 60 frames per second. But since I always thought that the movies were filmed at 24fps, it has me wondering: Are the in-between frames being GENERATED by the TV? [more inside]
I have 400 promotional MP4s that are each exactly 51 seconds long. I need 400 promotional MP4s that are each exactly 25 seconds long. Can I use a Complete up-to-date Adobe Creative Suite to accomplish this automatically? [more inside]

Suggest a microphone to plug into my iPhone 5S to improve the audio of my iPhone videos? Lavalier preferred, but a little shotgun thingie would be ok too. Hoping to achieve improved voice quality with less roomtone, and I need the audio file to record right onto the video file- I don't want to sync it in post. Thanks!
There was a music video (probably from the 80's) with an Alice in Wonderland theme. Not Tom Petty. This had a girl dancing outdoors (in a hedge maze?) doing ballet moves.
I'm looking for a music video I saw on YouTube within the last six months. Two young Japanese female musicians sitting at a table singing. It's mainly in Japanese but there are few English words here and there. It's a poppy, dancy song. In the background some men in green or black bodysuits are dancing around. One of the women eats a worm or grub with a fork. Towards the end one of the women pulls out a sword and chops the men up, and finally the other woman shoots herself with a gun. Does that ring a bell for anyone?
What's the best place to go to see, learn about and purchase professional quality video production and sound studio equipment in San Francisco? Things like quality cameras, production lighting, studio quality microphones, etc... [more inside]
I once saw a film, made in the early 60s, that demonstrated the basics of what is now called "Computer Architecture" using players at a card table as a metaphor. The film is shot from above and each of the "players" serve roles like "instruction fetch", "memory", "arithmetic unit", etc. The dealer plays the role of the clock. Can anyone point me to an official credit/source for this film? [more inside]
I'm interested in making cooking videos in the same esthetic as ChefSteps. How would someone without professional videography experience going about replicating the "glowy" look-and-feel? Understanding that these properties are a combination of technique and equipment, what would one need to procure to achieve these results? Would an iPhone 6 be sufficient to replicate say, 80% of the way?
I need to rent a sound stage for a live broadcast in NYC in the next few months. Is there a common resource for finding quality production houses online? [more inside]
My eight-year-old son is in Little League baseball for the first time. A lot of the what-to-do-when scenarios are mysteries to him. So we're looking for upbeat, fun videos about all aspects of defense — including knowing where to play for the outs, base coverage, relays, rundowns, and cutoffs — that we can watch so he can see the plays in action. I really like High Maintenance. Things about it that make me happy: a mix of primarily comedic episodes with primarily serious ones, but with a balance more on the comedic side; the episodes are standalone, but with some recurring characters (kind of like the Discworld book series); many different people and situations. Do you know of other good TV/video/etc series that fit these criteria, ideally ones that I can watch online?
I have tipped Google upside down and shaken it but can't find this YouTube clip/book/name of relevant professor. I think I found the first mention of his academic work (with a female co-author) on behavioural change/competing priorities in an Ask answer. He discussed interviewing stroke (?) patients who were prescribed daily medication and how he unexpectedly found the underlying reasons they wouldn't take their pills. More details under the cut: [more inside]
I really like the music in Apple's "Aluminum" video for the Apple Watch. Unfortunately, AppleMusic.info has no information about this video. Any idea who the artist might be?
I have a Sanyo Xacti VPC-HD1000 Camcorder (8 or so years old). Its video comes out in H.264 format (unfortunately)... [more inside]
My laptop is a Dell Latitude E4300, and it runs Windows 7 Professional. I have home wifi through Charter. Though my signal always tests strong, I have a lot of issues with video playback on Netflix, Hulu, YouTube, pretty much all streaming sites. The video gets slow or stutters or there are sync problems with audio/video. It doesn't matter which browser I use. I've tried lots of things, which I have listed below the cut, but none of them have really helped. [more inside]
In the early 1990s I saw a bizarre marketing video for OS/2. It was a cartoon of about 20 min. It featured anthropomorphic computers with screens for faces walking around a Wild West town. The DOS Brothers (which include DOS and WIN) overrun the town's sheriff, OS/2 V1.0. Then the new marshal, OS/2 V2.0 comes into town and cleans things up. Is there somewhere I could see a copy of this video or are there even any records that it existed? [more inside]
I've played Skyrim on a PS3 for a while now. I love it, but after hearing about all the mods you can do with the PC version, I was eager to buy the PC game. I've been trying to play it on my computer, but it's awful. [more inside]
About five (or more) years ago, I saw a hip hop video where both lyrics and video were medieval/renaissance faire themed. Featured some buxom ladies and possibly a horse mask. More humour than hip hop. Does this ring a bell for anyone?
I'm a member of a psychedelic rock band, and none of us are so good-looking or stage-charismatic that we'd want to be the primary thing people stare at. So we'd like to do the video-projection thing. But... we're not so into the classic hippie-melting-colors look, or the collage-of-spaceships-and-mushroom-clouds-and-wise-indians thing. What we'd really like, I think, is some simple geometric shapes, slowly morphing and transforming in hypnotic ways. Like a screensaver, only not lame. Any suggestions for the best way to do this? [more inside]
In the terminals of a few airports I've been to (CLT, BOS, maybe YYZ?), I have seen screens playing video advertisements on the walls of the terminals that don't look like the typical LCD or plasma TV. They seem to consist of four rectangles arranged 2x2, essentially forming one "screen", with a small gap between each panel. There is no "frame" around each panel like a normal TV - I just appears to be four screens by themselves. Also, the panels appeared unusually bright. The image did not appear to be projected from elsewhere. What are these devices called?
I used to use Canon Vixia HF M500 and upgraded to Canon HF G20. The video format is .mts. They open in VLC player and have interlacing lines through them. Why is the quality so bad? The M500 shoots in MPEG4 HD straight from the camera and had high quality large files. Can the G20 shoot in MPEG4 format? If not, what is the best setting to use when shooting? What is the best way to convert them on a Mac quickly while maintaining quality to upload? [more inside]
