Starting from scratch (as it were), if I'm going to go out and buy a new cable to connect my laptop to my monitor, what cable should I ideally go looking for?

Looking for a basic DVD + Blu-Ray player with HDMI. Doesn't need any kind of network streaming (TV and other devices handle that already). Ideally under $100. Am okay with buying used off craigslist or something if the model is known to be pretty reliable. Suggestions?

Fixing an HDMI connector: I broke the connector on one end of an in-wall HDMI cable. Is fixing it possible? This
AskMeFi thread proceeded with some of the answers I found on the internet until the poster realized they had a DVI cord.
So, I have an HDMI cable, one connector is broken, it runs 35 feet on a convoluted run through the walls and ceiling of an old house, so running new cable will not be as simple as just affixing a string to the old one and pulling it through.
Is fixing it possible?

I have my eye on the Acer Iconia A500: it's a snazzy Android tablet at a nice price, with lots of connectivity. The micro HDMI port is a major selling point for me,because I want to use it for playback of video projections for my performances.
But before I buy, I need to know that there's a good Android video player app out there that can 1) play videos from a playlist, and 2) transition seamlessly between videos. Any recommendations?

Hi hive mind, hope you're well.
Here's hoping one or more of you might be able to help me out with an A/V setup question. I've been (slowly) building a fairly decent setup piece-by-piece around an
Optoma projector. Trouble is, I now have an issue
splitting an HDMI combined A/V signal into HDMI video + RCA audio. A little help here, please!

I'm looking for a comprehensive A/V switch that receives pretty much anything and converts it all to digital signals for HDTVs and modern home theaters. Does it exist?

Going to buy a new computer and connect it to already-owned surround speakers and HD monitor. I want to be able to play Blu-Rays with nice HD sound if possible. I'm an HD, HDMI, Blu-Ray and recent-PC-hardware virgin, and will need to be led through this like I'm a kid.

Audiovisual question. What will happen if I plug the HDMI output of a Sony Playstation 3 to the DVI port of
this max. 1280x1024 pixel LCD projector? I would of course have a HDMI-DVI
cable. Will I be able to display 720p or 1080i stuff? And if it doesn't work, are there devices out there that downsample HD so I can use the projector for pseudo-HD movies and games? I really do not want to buy an HDTV. If it matters, a PDF manual for the projector (2.2 MB) is
here.

I recently built a new HTPC using a Gigabyte GA-G33-2SH motherboard. The motherboard is built on the Intel G33 chipset, and has dual onboard video -- a VGA output, and a DVI or a HDMI output. (You can use the VGA and one of the digital outputs simultaneously, but not the two digital outputs.)
