I somehow believe there was a THING going on in the 1990s/2000s that involved all kinds of pop stars and presenters and performances that were deliberately intended to be edited into one continuous stream that would fit together (going forward and backward, too). [more inside]

I have slightly less than two weeks to edit a video project. Due to unforeseen circumstances, I'm going to start editing on a MacBook with Final Cut Pro (in Location A) and then have to finish on an iMac with iMovie (in Location B). My Final Cut Pro clips should import to iMovie without any loss of quality, right? I assume yes, but I just need to double check so I'm not pulling my hair out in a week.
An amazing human being I've known since high school has a milestone birthday in a month. I'm considering secretly asking a bunch of her friends to record super-short videos, and then compiling those into a birthday greeting. Seems pretty straightforward. So what's the huge looming problem that I'm not considering? [more inside]

When watching YouTube I often can't help but feel that I'm the only person in the world who doesn't use video editing software. I often rip and encode videos but I've yet to delve into the world of video editing. Mostly I want to remove 'mistakes' and extraneous stuff from videos of myself speaking. My requirement are that the apps are Windows-compatible. Freeware and payware apps are welcome. It's preferable that the apps are light on resources and noob-friendly, but these aren't requirements.

I've got more than 40 family home videos on VHS tapes that I want to convert to digital on my Windows 7 PC. I realize that I'm probably overthinking this but I want to do a good job. My goal is to capture the VHS tapes at the best possible quality for posterity, and for online viewing and maybe DVDs, too. At the same time I don't want to chase after rapidly diminishing returns, as VHS quality isn't the best to begin with. My problem is that I don't know where to draw the line. [more inside]
I'm trying to e-mail a couple of .mp4 videos to my girlfriend's LG G3 Android phone. The first one worked fine, but both of my attempts of the second video are apparently an "unsupported file type." I encoded the videos myself from QuickTime .mov source videos using Avidemux, and I'm at a loss as to why one works but the others don't. (technical info inside) [more inside]

CHALLENGE TIME! You are lent some expensive, professional grade video equipment for 18 hours and told that you may use it as you see fit in the time you have. Assuming little to no preparation beforehand, what do you do and/or film with it? Ideally you'd like the owner (or anyone else who sees your work) to be mildly impressed, knowing that you have no actual solo film making experience whatsoever. [more inside]

Back in the '90s there used to be a "music video" style recording mode on Sony camcorders that created a low frame-rate, slightly blurred or dreamy look - perhaps something to do with using fewer frames per second and blending the intermediary frames. Does anyone remember this and know how to recreate that look in post-production, e.g. using final cut pro, etc.?
