Many music videos from the late nineties, six underground by the sneaker pimps being the most salient example to me, have a distinctive cinematographic feel and style to them, with very high contrast (super dark blacks and popping-out, almost oversaturated whites); a lot of murky brown/green and pops of red/blue. Does this style have a name? Is it a film effect or some kind of post-processing, or both? digital? Why was it so prevalent in the late-nineties, and, correct me if I am mistaken, mostly just for music videos? [more inside]

Using a Mac, what would be one of the higher quality ways of taking a 1 minute digital video clip, converting that file so that the video is broken down into several hundred sequential still frames (high quality) and then finally printing those still frames (say each one being 3" x 3") so that I can make a flicker picture book from them? Free programs would be nice but willing to buy something if it means getting a superior result.

I am looking to buy my first digital video camera and would like some recommendations. Preferably something I could use around the office to edit semi-professional looking internal company videos. Hard drive? Flash drive? Budget is $600 or less. THANKS!
Primer on digital video codecs, containers, etc. While working with video on my Linux PCs, I am often confused because I just don't know much about all the different video formats (MPEG 4, h.264) "containers" (OGG, AVI) the different kinds of compression, how the audio and video stay in sync, what various terms like "muxing" mean, and so forth. I'm looking for a good document that explains all these things to someone with little knowledge of it. A web document, book, Wikipedia article, etc. would be good. I just don't know where to start to see how these things fit together. Thanks.
Can you help me find a small, square format digital display that can play video or animated gifs? I found a bunch of digital photo keyframes that would be perfect but they don't seem to display animated gifs or videos. Any ideas? [more inside]
I would like to add video to a scrapbook/photoalbum. What device could best do this, cheaply? I have a Sansa Fuze mp3 player, which is small and can play video, but when turning it on, a reader would have to know how/where to navigate menus to find the videos. Is there anything small, battery powered, and cheap, that when activated, either automatically starts playing the video, or simply presents the reader with a list of videos to choose from? I want to teach myself to be more professional at digital video production. Are there any classes/seminars (online or in L.A.) that you'd recommend? I need recommendations for a digital video recorder designed for multiple video inputs, including sound, (four cameras point at an animal enclosure at a zoo) that's designed to allow for easy access to the videos recorded. Networkable would be really great, or standard removable storage (USB/SATA). I'd prefer it if the device recorded directly in a standard video format so no conversion from a proprietary format is needed.
I'm looking for the least expensive camcorder I can get my hands on. [more inside]
Will image stabilization on Digital Cameras stabilize the video recording as well? I have a Canon Elph, which does not have IS. I was looking at the Canon SD700 IS, but only if it worked for recording video too. I have an older Sony TRV-22 handicam that has steadyshot, but I find using the digital elph much more convenient. Great photos, and nice video quality too, except the obvious lack of video stabilization.

I have two rolls of exposed, undeveloped super 8mm film in my freezer right now. I want to have processing and a digital transfer done. I've done a bunch of research online, yet I can't seem to find a place that I would feel comfortable sending my film to that isn't astronomically expensive. Where can I have this done? Bonus if its in or somewhat near Chicago.
I'm attempting to take video off of my Canon SD200 digital camera (note: not camcorder) and put it onto my Mac PowerBook G4 so I can edit it in iMovie, but I can't figure out how to do it. If this were a PC, I'd have no issue, but my PC is nearly 7 years old, and probably can't handle video, let alone video editing. Do I need a program? Do I need to get my mac to register that the camera is connected? Help?

I need to edit some video files I've shot on my camera. The problem is that the camera's video files export as .MOV and I can't find a good entry-level Windows program that supports the file type. Could someone recommend either a program that will let me edit this file type, or a good freeware converter? And if I do change them over to .AVI, what are some recommendations for a good yet simple Windows video editor?
