I'm making videos from screen captures and I'm lost!

I've been tasked with creating YouTube-quality videos using clips generated by the screen capture software applications (Camtasia and Snapz Pro X. I have to bring these clips into Adobe Premiere for editing and to add titles and audio. I can't get my head around the various resolutions at play here and how best to match them up, so rather than more rambling narrative let me ask a few direct questions; [more inside]

Red + White = Meh

I'm currently using this USB capture device. The sound (regardless of the source, it seems) is always tinny and weak... maybe 1/3 the volume it should be. Would putting a preamp in between the source and the card improve things? Am I resigned to mixing sound in after the fact? [more inside]

What is a good HD flash-memory camcorder with AV-input?

Does anyone know of or recommend a good flash-memory hi-def camcorder that has AV input? (ie it can also record regular/analogue video from another source, like a VCR does, though obviously it won't be in HD). Something like the Aiptek A-HD+ meets the flash/HD/AV-in criteria, but I'm hoping to find something with better optics/zoom/stabilization. [more inside]

Capturing DV video straight to MPEG2?

I have a project coming up where I will need to capture (digitize) a full 8-10 hours of footage (to be captured on DV tape) and make DVD copies for 3 people by the end of the next day. Ok, so I know how to go from DV to MPEG2 via either Final Cut Pro (v. 5.1.4) or Avid Xpress. What I'm wondering is, is there a way to bypass capturing the footage to DV (then converting to MPEG2) and going straight from the tape to MPEG2 so I can save myself hours of encoding from DV to MPEG2 and then burning discs? Capturing video automatically.

I need to capture video from a webcam for 1 min. every 30 min, for a 24 hour period. I know I could do this with a python script but --as I have very little python experience-- I am looking for an easier, point-and-click method. Are there any programs that one can set to capture a specific amount of video every x minutes over a certain period? Is there some easier/better way to script this than with the python module?
