My roommate's 25 lb. mutt ate little tuna with a sprinkling of garlic powder (about 1/10th(?) teaspoon worth). Since garlic is extremely toxic to dogs, should I be worried?

My cat is sick. I have next to no money. Is there a really-truly-worth it pet insurance company you recommend? Or is there a place I can apply for financial assistance? [more inside]

Emergency! Does anyone know of an airline (or other option) that allows pets to fly as cargo without a certificate of health from the vet? I know there are one or two. [more inside]

Our cat has been salivating, lethargic, and had an irritated nose and tongue. Our vet diagnosed a spider bite. How long should the symptoms persist? [more inside]

My dog has damaged (bitten through the skin) 3 other dogs and was just diagnosed with heartworm. I know it's a bit impersonal to ask online, but can help me figure out when it is time to consider putting down my pet? [more inside]

Does my cat have a chronic respiratory infection, or is it possible she just naturally has poor breathing passages? Ever since my partner and I adopted her and her sister in August she has had periodic coughing and hacking fits that have been relatively unaffected by three separate rounds of antibiotics. Now I wonder if maybe she just has the equivalent of a deviated septum, or whether it's time for hospitalization. [more inside]

My dog won't lift his leg when he urinates. Typically I wouldn't be too concerned about this, except for the fact that he has terrible
skin (allergies) and I think that contact from him basically sitting in urine is not helping the problem.
For what it's worth, he is an english bulldog and coming up on his second birthday. Is it just too soon to expect him to raise that leg? Is there anything I can do to expedite the process?
I've always had female dogs before, so this has never been an issue...

Our three cats have fleas and worms. We've tried a couple of over-the-counter products, but they haven't helped (especially with the worms, which are our biggest concern). The vet wants to sell us expensive remedies, of which we are very skeptical. Before we shell out big bucks for the stuff the vet suggests, are there other things we should try? What has worked for you?
